This has been my solution and adapted for the Compass CLASS III Hitch I have. I have used this platform for hauling rocks, Up to 5 suitcases full from Montreal, Gasoline, cargo carrier etc for 15.

No wind drag and easy access are the main benefits.

These are really nice. I have a Thule one similar to this on my Liberty. I chose the Thule one because it is a covered box and i can lock it.

Mine was one of the first I saw. I originally had it on a Mazda MPV 4x4 1991 model. I got it a year or two later. I've always had lights on it. The old ones were big 10" single element fixture but rusted out. These are new ones I had in my garage unused for 10 years.
