Default Special Announcement

I have an announcement which some (most likely few) may be interested or eagerly anticipating. Tonight I noticed that my muddy compass was covered in snow. This snow means that it is time to prepare for the winter 4X4 season. This means snow hills, ice, sliding and possibly pulling a 2007 dodge ram mega cab out of a snowbank (again).

Seriously though, I would like to remind everyone to take your time, slow down, leave earlier and leave plenty of space between vehicles. I hate people who only scrape enough off thier windshield so they can see out, you need to see in all directions around your vehicle. I hope everyone has a safe winter, and if you haven't done it yet winterize your vehicle. A little preparation will make your vehicle safer on the roads.

Very true. Although I personally am looking forward to winter I release that for my more northern Compass brothers winter can be both a time of misery and beauty. I am wishing for all of us a fun filled and safe winter.

I am also hoping for a "normal" winter without global warming or cooling.

I HATE THE SNOW!
TG my Compass makes it bearable.
Is a joy to drive in the snow . . . but I hate not being able to keep it clean.

Well I lucked out. When I got my Compass, I traded in a '98 Plymouth Grand Voyager, so I still have all 5 (thats right, i even have a spare lol) steel rims with performance snows on them. I think I might just leave them bare. It make my jeep look more like those weird rims you see on a lot of European Compasses with snows on em. Should be a good winter lol

i2 there seems to be a river here in TN with your name on it. While the weather here has been "brisk" it will be about 71 degrees in Nashville tomorrow.

Personally I love snow...... two days worth and I am over it.

Stop teasing . . . the snow tires are on . . . the canoe is "nearly" ready to be put away . . . the weather has been getting down below freezing these nights so snow is not far behind.
I just keep hoping for one more beautiful, warm weekend, not holding my breath though.
Sure - I love the snow too, I just love shoveling it and pushing it and making huge piles of the stuff.
Thank gawd for 4x4

As some know - I traded in my 08 CSRT4 in for a Compass... The only bad thing is that I ordered a set of 20's with all-seasons for my CSRT4 and they shipped before I could cancel the order due to the trade in... LUCKLY!!! They now only have the same bolt pattern and offset..... They have the SAME size tire as the Cali's have!

So I lucked out!

Those of you who have the Firestones - how do they preform in the snow? I ended up getting the Dunlop Spot Sig. and tire rack reviews have the Dunlops with lots of better winter traction (light, deep and ice) than the Firestones...

We can only use winter tires now in the province of Quebec...............they are now manditory from Dec 15th on to April 1st...................I do have the 4 seasons Firestone and can't keep them on..........which is OK with me.

Oh they're the same, I already checked and because the tired were originally used for a minivan, the tires where built to handle more than the weight my compass will be putting on them. Should be a good set up for the winter, and I can't wait to hit some trails after a good snow fall

It is OK that it comes every year, just does not need to last SIX months.

Ok, at six months it does start to get a little boring. Summer is my busy time though so winter is the only real time I do get to play, guess that's why I like it.

It's not just the bolt pattern that you have to worry about... remember the offset... If your the offset on the "new wheels" is different enough - you'll be putting extra stress on your hubs, rotors, etc., and you could really mess your lower drive train up...

Even though the bolt pattern might fit... I'm sure you'd rather pay a grand (less really) for a new winter wheel/tire set then a few grand to fix your drive train...

It's all good. The steel rims are smaller but the tires are thicker(?) so they end up the same size. I just put them on and I turned the wheels both directions and visually inspected the tires, and no touching parts. They should be all right I'm thinking.

Hey Lunch Box, I just did a little research for you. The bolt pattern is NOT the same so be carefull. Your 98 Ply. has a 5-100 bolt pattern (the Compass is 5-114). Also, the offset and back spacing are a little off what's recommended for the Compass, but it's not too much to be worried about.

So if the steel wheels are fitting - there might be something wrong with the lug holes.

Not that I'm wanting you to no use them. I'd just hate to see a good car get trashed mechanically if it could have been prevented.

P.S. "Offset" is the difference, off center, that the face of the wheels touching the hub is to the wheel. Either way - if they are bolting up right, more power to you. Everything should be good to go for you!
