We have a few options when comes the time to change our oil....we either get advise by some sort of chime and indicator that it is time to change our oil or we go with the milleage required in between oil changes....... So my question is .........Is there a way to reset the OBC to recognize the new time frame and/or milleage that needs to be recognize by the On Board Computer? I for one go with synthetic......so technically I'm good for around 8000K........not 5000K like regular oil.......so how to do this so the chime and indicator reflect the new reality? Awaiting some answers........

Well how you Feeling today?
I am sure you're away that the oil change alert either on the dash with or without EVIC is programmed and duty cycle based. By that the computer monitors between oil changes various parameters in the engine and outside. Temperatures, length of drive(s), speed driven taking into account for city/highway etc. Winer condition with a lot of short trips and/or city driving with cause this to alert for a change quicker. Whenever this alert does come on its too long in my opinioin. Having said that and if you're already doing it the old way, millage based then switching to the computer alert would give you a more extended and safe extended change cycle. Whether you'd want to use an large oil filter (posted details before on them) may be advisable. There is no way WE would be able to change this threshold since there is know way for the computer to sense the difference in dino and synthetic oil and I doublt there is a sensor that monitors oil condition either. A lot of Synthetic oil is modified dino oil, a molecule is modified synthetically allowing the manufacturer to claim its synthetic and I believe Mobile start doing that years ago from details on another forum when I had another vehicle but thats another topic entirely. I've pulled this up but its on as details as it could be and there is text out they on the parameter used but I have not been able to locate it at this time. 2011 Jeep Compass - Change Oil Message - YouTube

remember, it's not just the oil that determines the interval, but the oil filter also. your oil filter might not be effective in that range.
now, with that said, the 2011+ is rated for 8,000 miles (~12,800 kms), so take that for what it's worth.

If you drove coast to coast in a week or two putting on that millage you'd be ok with few starts and hot cold cycles. But thats not the case for 99.9% Run synthetic but still change the oil and filter. Few of us would entertain having their engine rebuilt. But all would change there oil if that was clear would eliminate a rebuild. Its the cheapest solution.

Mine came on at 4000 miles (not sure what the oem oil was) then again at 7000. That sucks for the money of Synthetic. Will have to try a different type of oil than Castrol Edge and filter I suppose and see if it improves. My wife drives this very easy, no lead foot.

7000 miles is a lot for one oil change interval. If you're getting that I would not go further unless you not keeping it in 4 years. Someone else will inherit the engine problems

based on what data? the new oil change intervals are based on countless hours of testing, and they wouldn't give those figures out without being able to back them up. the 3,000 oil change interval is a 50 year old practice. engines and oils have come a long way in half a century.
