Windshield Washer Motor Not Activating

Hey guys,

When I press back on the lever inside my Jeep, I cannot hear the wiper motor turn on. I was wondering if I could test voltage to the wiring connector that plugs into the motor by having someone in the Jeep press the lever down. Anyone ever tried this? How often do these things go out?

I just had the TIPM replaced for a faulty passenger-side low beam. Hopefully this is not related.

That's definitely a way to check it. See if the wires are getting power to the motor and at that point you can eliminate that it's not a short or something. Then replace motor if need be. Otherwise you could always try to put direct power to it as well.

I have an 07 compass that is having the same issue with the rear wiper/washer not activating. Here's the skinny. They both will work intermittently, but if one does not, they both do not. I have changed the motor and the switch. I know it is not the motor for the washer as it is the same motor for the front and that works every time. I was told that the rear is "part of the network". If the battery is disconnected, and let set for a bit, when I hook it back up, it works. For some reason, the rear functions are "falling off the network". Anyone have any info on this?

Sounds similar to my issue. My back washer started trickling water out instead of spraying it. Then, about a year later, the motor went. I know it's the motor (or electrics I should say) because it doesn't come on when I pull the washer lever. When you pull the lever, do you hear your motor coming on? If so, I would get some compressed air and blow through the tubes. Yours might be clogged. You can see both the tubes running from the motor to the front and rear washer nozzles.

Something else you could do before you try compressed air is see if you can detach the rear tube somewhere in the engine bay to see if water is at least leaving the pump. I know you can do this with the hood tube, but I'm not sure if there is a location to detach the tube going to the rear. If anything, you could hold your finger over it and see if you feel water moving through it.

As for your intermittent issues... those are the plague of car troubleshooting. Intermittent when it comes to this though... sounds like it might be a clog.
