2014 Compass jerks at stops & acceleration

Had my compass 1.5 years now, never any issues until last few months. It has 62,000 miles. When coming to a complete stop there is what sounds like a "clunck" coming from under hood, driver's side, and you can tell it feels like it lost power. Sure enough, when you press on the gas to move, the engine revs but you go nowhere, - until a rough "jerk" and then the car jumps forward. Sometimes I can feel the same "clunk" when shifting from park to drive. Problem lasts for 3-4 days, then goes away for a week, and then comes back to haunt me. Everytime I try to bring it to the dealer it stops.
Anybody have a clue?

Check transmission fluid, it sounds like it's slipping or something.

Hi TRex4,

Sorry to hear about this! It sounds like the concern is intermittent but have you gone on a test drive with a service advisor or technician at your dealership? In my experience this can help them duplicate your concern and diagnose your vehicle.

If it happens on and off, maybe you can try recording it and bring that to the dealer? Unless you can recreate it with a service tech sitting beside you in that 3-4 day span.

Garage
What transmission do you have? brake been done recently? or any maintenance done,
things to check,, wheel bearings, caliper, brake pads, cv joint. struts. and make sure your wheel lug nut are tight. I had a van I thought the rear end was going because a clunk every time i shifted p-d,- r. so I had some one shift it for me. then i saw the wheel movement on the lug nuts they were just loose enough to make them slop. Wow! thank god I found that.

Thanks for everyone's thoughts......
Was able to bring to dealer while "acting up". Made appt, they spent a full day running through different tests. At 4pm they told me they were in contact with the "engineers" & want to drop the trans. So I have to bring back Monday & thinking I might as well rent a car at this point. oi

Really interested to hear what they find. Maybe try to work out a deal on a loaner with them?

The dealership narrowed it down to the transmission control module. They changed it out at no charge 2 weeks ago (still under warranty) & at this point have had no issues. Yey!

Oh the joys of warranty! Real happy to hear that it all worked out though, back to tackling the roads
