2018 Compass Trailhawk

Before you read this.. please take this moment to seat yourself, grab a nice cup of coffee and take a deep breathe before we begin...

Okay, about 8 weeks ago I purchased a 2018 Jeep Compass Trailhawk with 30 miles on it. About 3 weeks into owning it I discovered a large amount of transmission fluid had leaked out onto my driveway. I had the vehicle towed to the nearest dealership. The dealership had to reorder the part 3 times before finally getting the “corrected” PTU Unit (transfer case) and the vehicle was in the shop for 28 days! Longer than I had the vehicle! I also paid for this service called Jeep Wave - the person who was appointed as my case manager was/is completely incompetent. At times she would call me to get an update while the vehicle was in the shop..rather than calling the dealership. (I’m not really sure what they have really provided for me other than a massive headache)

Anyways, I get the vehicle back and notice a significant winding sound coming from the front bay of the car and it now bangs into gear while shifting. I take it back to the stealership and they kindly let me know that it’s “operating as designed”. Two days later I’m driving 30mph across town and feel a hard jolt and hear a bang over the radio. I continue driving back home and as I’m going down a short stretch of highway at 65mph the loud jolt happens again. Shaking the vehicle significantly. No light came on, but the winding sound from the trans is significantly louder now. Back to the stealership I go. I am so disappoint... I was incredibly excited about this vehicle because it is beautiful. I came on here to 1. Rant and 2. To hopefully see if others have also had similar issues with the Compass, the dealership, and Jeep wave. If you’re sitting in the dealership about to purchase a new Jeep. Get out while you still can.

My TH had the transmission leak at around 100 miles. I am some what of a control freak when I it comes to cars so I detected the leak while transmission fluid was still almost full (dealer said it still had ~90%), so no damage was caused to the parts. Dealer replaced the seals and bunch of other stuff, leaked never happened again. They assured me that if I have any problems with the transmission in the future, they will replace the entire transmission.

If I were you, I would take the car to a different dealer. I never heard a shop that would tell you to ignore bangs and a shaking car. Most dealers are very keen on replacing entire components on new cars, except dealers that are on Mopar's blacklist (ones that scammed Mopar with unnecessary repairs and etc). This whole thing makes me think you dealer might be on that list. That makes them very hesitant o make expensive repair because, due o their past record, Mopar does an investigation for the repairs they make and it can take months for them to get reimbursed for warranty repairs.


Also I was gifted free jeep wave when I purchased the car, I thought all new cars come with jeep wave worth of 4 oil changes.

First off Jeep Wave is Free on Compass Trailhawk.
I bought one of the first 2017.5 Compass Trailhawks in our area. Drove it home first day and transmission was leaking.
Two weeks in shop for repairs to be made. 5000 miles later leaking again, This time 2 weeks in shop and transmission replacement.
35,000 miles now on my Trailhawk. Going back in shop next week for leaking axle seals and sway-bar links replacement, recharge of air conditioning.
The resale on this vehicle is terrible or I would be trading it off. Fortunate enough that it's at least paid for. I have the extended jeep warranty with the $200.00 deducible that will help with further repairs now that I am close to being out of warranty (3year/36,000 miles)
My local dealer has been great in taking care of these issues. But my faith in the Jeep brand is failing as the repairs mount up. We were going to purchase a new Jeep JL Rubicon but have now put that on hold. Good luck with your repairs and I would also consider taking it to a different dealer. My selling dealer offered me nothing, first day I had it with the leak they told me to take to different dealer to get it fixed. Cashed my check and pretended to care.
