Hold Start Button or Just Push it?

My manual leads me to believe that I should just push my Start button once and the vehicle will start. Mine does not do that. I have to hold it in, and release it or the starter will remain in action. I'm not complaining, as I've never had a push button start before, but wondering if anyone else is having this occur. Thanks.

2017 New Compass Latitude 4x4 C635 6spd manual. Mineral Gray. Tow,
Cold Weather, Safety & Security, Popular Equipment, Beats Audio. Built June 2017.

Added: JW Speaker fog lights, Weathertech mats, Mopar flaps &
vent shades, Trailhawk front skid plates.

That's weird... I just need to step on the brake and push the start button. For how long do you hold it?

Umm. Okay. I'll try that. I usually just put my foot on the clutch to start it since the P brake is always on. Thanks.

I push it like I’m ringing a door bell. A ”touch” push turns the car on, but a “ding-dong” push starts the ignition.

Push and release. No "hold" required.

This may be a difference between manual and automatic transmissions.

I tried the suggestions several ways today. With brake depressed, brake not depressed, from a Off position and the Run position (I don't have an accessory position...even though my girlfriend's brand new 2018 Cherokee Latitude with PBS does). The Jeep will not start unless I hold the button in. Then, I have to release it or the starter will remain engaged. Does anyone else have the 6spd and this same situation?

Hi Mudman1,

You should be able to start with a single push, not an extended hold. It might be beneficial to have your dealership take a look at the button. Please let me know if you need any help making an appointment.

Garage
I have manual trans and it does require a brief hold. If I just give a quick push it will turnover once but not start.
