Jeep Compass 2018 Forward Collision Warning Issue

When I adjust the Forward Collision Preferences settings in the Uconnect 8.4, it show me "selected" and I can return to the main menu and come back once more into this adjust to check if continues selected, but when the ECU turn to sleeps state (total turn off of the vehicle) and I turn the vehicle back on after 30 seconds the Forward Collision Preferences are showed set in the default values, my custom values are not saved, so it is very dangerous to trust this security function.

Also at the time of starting the advance in the morning, when the vehicle is cold by the ambient temperature, the front brakes produce a loud noise when braking gently, as when the ABS is activated during a sudden braking, but after a few minutes of normal driving and braking this stop happening.

My forward collision setting defaults back to factory settings as well. 2018 Compass Latitude with uconnect 8.4. I would complain, but I turned active braking off, then I almost rear ended someone, and to my surprise it slammed the brakes for me. That's when I realized that it had defaulted back.

As for noisy brakes in the cold, some pad compounds just do that. I don't think it's a defect. My $60k Audi screams in the cold. Sucks, but it's normal.

Hi dannydeez

I thank you for clarifying me about the brakes because with so many flaws, I'm worried about everything that happens to the Compass

Welcome. The sound should be a loud squealing type of noise as the rotor rotates against the pad. If you are experiencing something else, or just feel concerned, I would have the dealer take a look at it anyway. Brakes aren't something to take lightly.

What is the solution then, because my Compass (201 has FCW but it hasn't worked since day 1. Everything goes back to the default settings after I change them. The dealership tried but said everything is how it is supposed to be, but there is no real test to see if it works or not! Please help!

You can try to drive into a large styrofoam or cardboard box. As long as the boxes are large enough, the system should "autobrake".

Everything going back to default settings upon reset is a safety feature. It is there to prevent someone from turning it off and forgetting it that way.

I have the same issue. I haven稚 noticed anything, neither active braking, nor warning noise when set up at far distance

Maybe I was expecting some kind of adaptive speed reaction, which is really noticeable in other models when another car overtakes you.

But, in any case, I have never heard the warning noise so far...

That sound more like adaptive cruise control. Forward Collision breaking and alarm only activates if the system detects a crash is inevitable, it doesn't work to slow you down and keep a certain distance. When it detects a potential crash, it first jerk the breaks to warn the driver, if you don't respond, it will slam the breaks.

You can put a large cardboard (filled with packing peanuts) and drive into that, it should activate the system. Keep in mind thin cardboard alone might not trigger the system since it is radar based.

Hi Roldwin,
We understand why this may be concerning. We suggest having your dealer inspect these concerns if you have not done so already. We are also available via private message if you would like any additional assistance during that process.

I will, thank you. But I値l do it the next time I go to Spain (the Jeep is registered in Spain), because here in France everything goes way way to slow, and by the time they take care, the Jeep will be already stopped... ... ...
