Ooops, spoke to quickly. I don't have another phone or camera so can't get a picture if my phone is in the holder.

I looked at several different cell phone mounts and ended up getting this ďTe-RichĒ mount/charger from Amazon. I like that it is adjustable and has a built-in lightning cable. I can position my phone perfectly. Havenít needed to use the 2 USB ports on it, but that is an added bonus!

The proclips came in and it took about 15 minutes to put together and install. I put the phone case in the holder to give some idea of what it would look like with phone installed.

My drop-in center counsel trays arrived today... Just checked and my phone fits in there, but the USB cord doesn't have space to go back around the side and out the hole in the counsel. Would probably work for smaller phones, but those are getting rare. Lol
On the positive side, I've got a new place to put stuff that the FCA engineers didn't feel we needed!!

I sure like the angle it sets the phone at. Great visibility, quick access if needed and it's sturdy as heck.

Android Auto or Apple Carplay, the only way to go. Puts the map up on the screen all nice for ya, easy to switch between radio and map as needed, automatically lowers the music volume and speaks the directions through the driver's side speaker. Its awesome.

Yep. I use carplay on the road but not so much in town.

That said and truth be told. That post you quoted could just as easily have said, "Driver looks at screen, flips Jeep." Both the phone and the big display screens are a distraction and require you to take your eyes off the road.

Heck, even the hands-free steering wheel controls require you to take your eyes off the road to find the button.

@Guillaume Larouche Thats the stuff! Nice work, that is pretty close to something I had thought of but never had the free time to model and print out. Are you using the little hole under the rubber tray at the bottom to secure it or what makes it stay?

Broke down and bought the proclip. Its not too bad, but I still wish there was an area to put it like I had in my Fusion.

Phone placement

I actually ran the USB cable from the front USB port, through the dash and have it coming out behind the steering wheel. Then I plug my phone in and lay it right under the speedometer and tachometer.
It sets there really well and doesn't move around a lot. Only issue is that I tend to forget that it is there since it is a black phone and it blends in.

On real short journeys my phone just goes in the central console cup holder.

For longer journeys I have a discreet windscreen mount and have run a USB cable from the front USB port through the area above the pedal box and then through the compartment on the side of the dash where the driverís door opens. The cable is completely out of sight. Canít stand cables trailing everywhere.

When my phone is in the mount I use either Android Auto or the offline NAV app I have on my phone (an app which cannot be used through Android Auto). I sometimes run the offline NAV alongside the in car NAV as they often have slightly different views on routes or traffic which can be useful.

Cheers

Rog

But as far as I can understand, the rear USB doesn't connect to CarPlay, only the one near the gearshift...unless I'm wrong, in which case, I'd be very happy

You are quite right about only the front USB doing Carplay

I tried the back one as I thought it would be easier to hide the cable from there and would leave the front one empty for other stuff but no joy

Carplay has to be the front one

The rear USB works for Android Auto, can't think of any reason it wouldn't work for carplay as well. You might have to select the rear USB port on a screen somewhere or something but I'm pretty sure the rear one works for everything the front one does...

I tried the rear one when I got the car. It didnít work for Android Auto. Front one worked straight away.

The handbook says the front one only for this.

My rear port does carplay and android auto.
I always need to beat my passenger by plugging in first, otherwise their phone takes over my display

Hmmmm, I wonder if it matters which radio you have 5/7/8.4 as to whether or not the rear USB supports AA/Carplay/Media etc. I have the 8.4 non-nav, and I exclusively use the rear USB port for Android Auto to keep my cable mess down in the cupholder area and to leave the easy/obvious USB port in the front available for anybody in the passenger seat (usually the missus looking to pull a cord out of her purse and charge her phone while on a trip)

I have the 8.4 with Nav and I also use the rear USB to hide the wires in the console. Android Auto works on my rear one.

On the dash, behind the steering wheel, below the gauges

This seems like the best place to put my phone (Samsung Galaxy 210 Plus) while I have it plugged into Android Auto. I also have a 3d printer and am working on trying to design a tray that clips onto the space behind the steering wheel, but below the gauges. Over the past year, I have just let the phone sit there and I rarely have any issues with it sliding around.
