Side trip in Moab over the weekend

Found a nice spot west of Moab.
Wasn't trying to do any offroading at all, just looking for a nice spot.

The Compass handles the light snow, ice, and mud well. Never felt it slip. My Dad's GMC (right next to us in the one photo) was slipping around and making him nervous.

Even with the poorly rated stock ContiPro's, Jeep for the win.

FWIW
Our trip was roughly 2100 miles, mostly freeway, 75+mph.
But up hills, through the mountains, etc.
Mixed with very cold temps for 3 or 4 days straight (15F highs, 5-10F lows)

and for the trip, we averaged 26mpg.

24mpg going up from the deserts to altitude.
28mpg for most flat areas
23-24mpg around town in the cold temps
29-30mpg heading back down to the deserts.

All of this with 5 people, and a completely full rear.
I'm a believer... more so than I was before.

Thanks for sharing. Looks like it was a lot of fun.

Spending time learning the science of the mechanisms of friction, lubrication, and wear of interacting surfaces that are in relative motion
Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery

Nice we just bought a Compass a few weeks ago. That being said I have a 2016 Wrangler Unlimited Backcountry edition. We drove it from MN down to Utah and hopped the national parks and then spent the last 3 days of the trip in Moab doing some off roading before coming back to MN.

One big question i always had on my mind was what the stock tires are like and its good to hear that you have a good thing to say about them having put them through what you did.
