I did some researching online and found that it's easier to remove the glass first. After the glass is removed, it's easier to get to the tabs that hold the cap in place. I tried this on my Compass and found it to be the exact same procedure: Carefully remove the glass, and then release the tabs inside while using a pry tool to gently to get the cap off.
