locking glove box

is there a way to install a locking glove box? or could one swap a locking glove box from another chrysler/dodge/jeep?

and has anyone tried to mount the spare somehow on the back of the hatch using parts from a liberty or something? probably need to move the license plate....but it would add lots of space

I don't think you can do the fridge. It's in the same location as the passanger airbag and it runs off the A/C compressor. If you don't mind hacking the dash apart and can find the parts it might be doable but I'd reccomend against that route.

I agree with smokey on the fridge idea, but with the spare, you have yours located somewhere besides under the load floor?

no...my spare is located where it was designed to be....the hatch isn't strong enough to stay open if you were to ever mount the tire there (which is what originally wanted to do). it might be cheaper to try to install strong hydrolics that would keep the rear open with the extra weight. if that's not possible I was thinking if anyone tried to install a spare tire rack or something, that sung open....like on old pathfinders and blazers.

since I'm all about locks...i installed a locking gas cap a few days ago. you can keep the new cap attached to the jeep by simply drilling a hole (size 15/64) in the handle beside the lock. I filled that hole with some putty and took the plastic piece that keeps the stock cap attached and used it for the locking cap instead. driving it for a few days and i'm assuming the seal is good cuz i'm getting no check engine lights and my fuel economy is still the same.

My advice is to keep the gas cap key seperate from your other keys. i had mine on my key chain and when i purchased some gas i found it very difficult to unlock/lock because all my other keys wanted to scratch the rear quarter pannel.

Ok, I see what you're saying. I'll have to look around and see if they don't make some heavier duty hydraulics for the liftgate. I know the ones I got from NAPA for my XJ are pretty serious, as in, as soon as you hit the button, better back outta the way 'cause it's going up, lol!

that would be a cool mod and it wouldn't be too bad, two hydraulics, and a bracket to mount the spare and a spare cover.

i was at the dealership and i love what they've done to the 2010 compass. updated the interior, gave the front passenger control of locks, etc. but i still think JEEP should have the rear glass of the hatch open up as well, so we could carry lumber longer then 10ft and keep the hatch closed. i noticed a lot of the small SUVs (CRV, rav4, highlander, etc) don't provide that....but it would make sense

I put a 12 foot pole in my jeep once with the lift gate closed. It physically touched the windshield and the tailgate. I cut it down to 10 feet when I got home and was happier. It has to go diagonally across the jeep but it does fit.

i figured out how to fit longer pieces of wood after the damage was done. and i didn't have a pole, i had 80ft worth of base board taped together, so it was thick and not very flexible. hopefully on the newer compasses they come out with rear windows that moved would still be a nice mod, or even one that moved vertically down like on a 4runner or envoy would be good too.

Yikes, yeah, I know what you mean. Used my Compass to bring home one of those chain link dog kennels, not flexible at all. One end rested on the dash and the other end was right agains the liftgate. I agree, though, I like the idea of a detachable window in the rear, sure would make things easier!
