Winter Rims

I am wondering if anyone is using winter Rims with their winter tires?

Does it make a big difference besides saving the alloy rims?

What size of tires are your winters? Same as the original or higher profile? The listings I have seen so far don't offer 17" in 60 or 65 profile and seems hard to find unless they are not publishing it.

I am going with 17" 60 profile. I was quoted $79 a rim at dealer in Ottawa

I have to find (hopefully) some winter tires/rims... I run the 215/18's so that is a no go... the smallest (I think) rim I can go is 17 - 16's look like they would scrape the calipers. Found tires for $130 a piece or so but the rims, geez...

Ok, let redirect this a tad. I have 17" rims standard and I am wondering if anyone has used 16" steel rims and/or higher tire profile than 60 which are also standard on my compass. EG 65's are easier to find and very little difference in height. For those posted what there winter solution is PLEASE also post the original OEM rim and tire size of your compass unless they are the same then just say same as the summer tires.

Thx

Trip here is the deal with a Canadian North Edition just like yours.........

OEM wheels :
Firestone (crap) P205R60/17

Winter wheels:

4 Michelin X-Ice (215-65-16)
4 new steel wheel (16 inches)

Both offers the exact same diameter...........

Now were talking. Firestones tire are always below the bottom of my list. Junk yard tires.

As for Michelins, I've heard they are good like Blizacks for the 1st or 2nd winter then degrade rapidly in traction. I am not sure about that for my applications. I have seen other tires that have very good characteristics. I don't recall the name at this time but though I would reply asap.

Thx
