Performance Chips?

Anyone have any opinions on performance chips, like the ones sold on ebay? I just purchased one, I'm not getting my hopes up because it looks like unrealistic results, but with a 30 day return guarantee, I don't see why not giving it a try.

I'll let you guys know once I get it and how it works out.

Re: Performance Chips?

Here's the link to the Ebay auction:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=110207028584

After ordering it I did a little more searching on Google, and I guess I really shouldn't have. I've found the majority sold are just resistors, but we'll see when this one comes in. I probably will just return it, or eat the $15.

Let me know what you think.

Re: Performance Chips?

I wouldn't call that a performance chip. That's a stretch. I've heard of these before. Yeah, basically they're a $0.39 resistor that taps into your IAT - Intake Air Temperature sensor. They tell the computer that it's colder than it is and that puts the vehicle in a rich mode. When your vehicle is cold it does that until it warms up a bit, then the oxygen sensors are used to run the right air/fuel mixture, etc.

If you could really get 50-55hp & 11mpg for $9.95, the car companies would do that from the factory. Indeed the "chip" might increase power a bit but in the long run it could damage your engine. If you're running it rich all the time that's not good. I'm not familiar with this seller's "product" but the ones that are similar to that are generally not a good idea...

And I don't see how it cannot void your warranty... that's bull.

Re: Performance Chips?

Yeah after spending a few good minutes on google I came up with basically the same information, all well. So much for that. I'm surprised E-bay lets them sell the crap.

Hence the principal of "CAVEAT EMPTOR".
In regards to E-Bay, although they host auctions for a small fee and have some restrictions upon certain items that may have health, safety or moral considerations, they do not judge applicability of consumer products.
