What about that horn? Weak Beep for a Jeep!

Everybody happy with their horn?
When I first went for my test drive I remember noting the horn was rather weaker then I expected. Anyway with all the other excitement test driving and since it had long slipped my mind.
Until I needed the horn the other day! .... Beep . . . beep!
If I open the doors with the alarm on, boy oh boy, is it ever loud, but go hit the horn in an emergency, how weak a beep for a Jeep!
Are they all so lame?
Any replacement recommendations?

Re: What about that horn? Weak Beep for a Jeep!

I have gone to use my horn twice in the last week and a bit, and both times, nothing, either it is frozen, or I have not hit the wheel in the right spot, but I think if I hit it any harder, I will set off the airbag.

Strange... My previous car was a Chrysler Neon. That had a weak small-car's-horn. My Compass'es horn is like a trucks' horn, you don't have to hit it twice to get the result
But maybe I'm just comparing it with the wrong car...

I think it might also have to do with regulations that vary from country to country. I think it is fine, (I remember test driving the RAV4 and dying of laughter when I had to use the horn... ) Im pretty sure that in countries like Switzerland that the horn is practically muted.

I think the horn sounds weak, but the alarm for doors locked is really loud. So I'm thinking maybe it just sounds weak from inside the car, has anyone heard the horn (from actual honking) from outside the car?

Ok, ok, so I tried the horn with my window opened.
Maybe the horn IS loud enough . . . but all the same, I do not care for the "tone" of the horn. I would best describe the blast as being somewhat muted.
It is hard to describe it but I just don't like the sound.
Over 20years ago I replaced the horn in my TR6 with FIAM air horns. Work like a charm, still make a statement today.
Like they say. . . "LOOKOUT-I'M HERE!". . . instead of . . . "hay-see me please"!

Just be careful about using the Air horn in the city. Most cities have by-laws about the db level that a vechiles horn can be. Technically semi trucks aren't suppost to use their air horns in the city.

Re: What about that horn? Weak Beep for a Jeep!

haha i don't know about you guys but the horn on my jeep is the loudest i have ever heard on any car/truck/suv stock. to give you an idea of how loud mine is i work inside of a pizza hut as a cook and we have a gigantic oven that is always on that is pretty loud, i park my compass about an 1/8th of a mile away and when someone accidentally bumped it getting out of their car my alarm went off and man could you hear that thing, the honking horn is the same loudness for me as the alarm horn.

Re: What about that horn? Weak Beep for a Jeep!

In retrospect, I think the horn is fine, the vehicle is very well insulated and from within, windows up, I don't find the horn loud, but on the other side, the outside, the horn is actually plenty loud.
I stand corrected.
