thanks ron... i wanted to post a HOW TO on this one but for me it was pretty much straight forward taking the tailgate cover apart. I might buy some touch up paint and paint the camera housing the same color of the car.. but im not sure if it would look good or not.

Looks exactly like where i put mine. I bought the AudioVox Cmos camera because of the housing and the fact you can color match your car.

AH lol nice! lol its probably the cleanest place to put one. I used to install them on all kinds of vehicles and most mount like yours. I liked the factory look of the Audiovox ones. They are the only ones ive ever seen come with all the mounting options.

Audiovox CMOS2 Rear-view camera at Crutchfield.com

for $99 its got great features.

Both look great. Should get one for the wife but would need one for front too and both cars (she doesnt have a clue where the vehicles front or back are at all)

To paint it I would take it off and mask the lens and then paint. I think it would look good body color.

i thought about painting mine, but im too lazy and the black contrasted fine with the white. Looks factory, im not fond of the spider leg mounts they seem wobbly to me. Mines drilled and mounted with two bolts with lock washers and lock nuts, its not going anywhere.

Its a perfect addition to a compass since only 30% of your rear window is useable lol.

When you have the cover off of the inside of the tailgate, look at the location of where the handle is on the opposite side. You'll see 2 screws inside of the tailgate holding it up. Just undo them.

Aside from the coat hanger, what all did you need to install the camera? Just normal tools and the cables that came with the camera? Nothing more?

I just bought a Pioneer AVH-P2400BT receiver and figured I might as well install a back up camera while I'm at it. BTW, your pictures no longer display, at least not on my work computer.

Sweet. Thanks, man. I'll check back when I get home so I can get a look at your pictures, I really like the way Robert's looks with the enclosure around the camera.

I purchased the MOPAR camera kit for a Commander off EBay for $125, and it mounted to my Compass almost exactly as the Commander instructions outline.

The primary challenge was snaking the wires through the "snake" pictured at the bottom of post #4. Wire hangers can be a wonderful tool.

The kit comes with a small monitor that mounts at the bottom of the A pillar. If ever I replace my headunit with a 7' monitor type down the road, it's now just an unplug and plug exercise.

The kit had a bracket for the camera that mounts behind the top of the license plate. Very clever.

2010 Compass LTD White on black.
Added UConnect w/IPhone cable, front/rear MOPAR mud flaps, K&N drop in air filter, hardmount gooseneck cell phone station, MOPAR cargo liner, MOPAR cargo net, remote mount ESCORT Radar/Laser Detector w/Voltmeter readout, upgraded speakers, added stock mount Tweeters & sub-woofer, MOPAR Back-up Camera/monitor, front lower grill, interior wood accents

Great site!

I am new to the site and the Jeep community, thanks for all who posted in the forum it has been very helpful.
I was wondering if there was a factory 'spot' to install the camera (I am not even certain compass have the option). I am picking up my 2011 compass sport on Wednesday (can't wait!) and am already trying to figure out what mods I can do. I am going to install a Kenwood ddx319 and am going to purchase the camera but before purchasing will wait till I get the truck.
Any suggestions on where to mount, or is by the license plate the only option? Was hoping I could install up higher above the rear glass but open to suggestions/ideas.
Thank in advance!- J

Backup Camera Arrived License plate mount

The camera came in today, it is a crimestopper SV-5200 that mounts on the license plate. I haven't put it on yet, but a dry fit makes it seem like it should fit with enough clearance to still open the tailgate.
QUESTION- how did you get the wire for your cameras from the outide of the car inside? I really don't want to drill a hole, and am looking at the spot where the license plate lights are to run the wire through. Any input?
When I install I will do a step by step (hopefully with video at a minimum pictures) so help anyone else attempting this install. THe wire on my camera is pretty thin, however the 'entry point' will need to be the size of an RCA cable.
As always and help or input/criticism is greatly appreciated!

Removing Interior trunk panel

Back Up Camera Installed (half way there) I will post a step by step and some pictures. the License plate mount fits, but it is tight. Opening up it is fine but you need to know where to grab, if you a guy with big hands may be to tight of a fit. looks awesome though.
I still need to know how you run the wire into the truck from the hatch- I got the wire up to the last pictures in Robert M post above, now deciding how to run the wire to the front of the car.
