cross member rot on my 07 compass

Took my 07 compass to the garage for a banging underneath and was told my engine cradle was almost rusted in 2. He gave me some good news however that Jeep put out a extended warranty on the issue. I contacted my local dealer about it and they said yes it will be covered under warranty so I arranged a tow and about 10 minutes later dealer calls me back and said they were sorry that it would not be covered because it was not purchased in one of the salt belt states. I purchased it in Virginia, which is not covered, but West Virginia and D.C. is covered in the warrantyI live 40 minutes from West V.A. This is absolutely wrong for them not to cover when all these other jeeps are covered for the defect. It should not matter where you purchased it if it has the same problem it should be covered. Was gonna buy a new one but not gonna happen now!!!

Call Jeep customer service directly. Deal with them and they will instruct the dealer what to do. Scam...

Hi sturg,

Iím sorry to hear about your concerns with your vehicle. Unfortunately, some recalls are region specific as well as VIN specific. You can check if there are any recalls on your vehicle by entering your VIN here: recalls.mopar.com. I apologize for this inconvenience and let me know if you have any further questions.

What a joke. The entire continent is subject to rusting vehicles from either road salt and water as well as sea salt spray for coastal regions. Those less suspection may not have a problem with the steel rusting to the level of outright destruction. So if it happens it valid to claim for it.

Another reason not to buy a Chrysler product. I was looking at whether RAM would be a good buy for my son to get as a Pickup. Certainly not with a company with that mentality!!!

As I said above report your Case to the relevant vehicle safety organization (USA or Canada) and keep you receipt if you get it repaired on your own.

Just picked up my compass from garage

Hello folks, just letting you know I just picked up my 07 compass from the garage and it cost me $661.00 to repair my engine cradle, but if I would have bought it in one of the salt belt states it would have been covered under a jeep extended warranty.Really salt belt states!! I wish the government would not have bailed there sorry butts out of debt and let them crumble. I will never ever buy a jeep again.

I would have escalated it with Chrysler and also reported it to the Auto safety board to consider this a recall issue.

Another reason why one should stay away from theses and other family products. Fiat-Chrysler is the winner with 5 on Forbes don't buy list. Oh and this has been going on for years continually on top in this rating. Customer service is the worst of the worst.

Chrysler will NOT honour the 10 year extended warranty on subframe. I have a 2007 Compass in which the crossmembers (basically the entire underbelly of the car) are prone to EARLY and SEVERE rust/corrosion. Also on the 2007 Patriots. Chrysler refuses to replace them until there is a hole or they fall off. I had to insist that the dealer put it up on the hoist so that I could show him a hole. The rear crossmember is going to rot through any time and could fall off at that point causing an accident and even death. Then they will fix it. It is a waiting game. They won't fix it until it rusts all the way through, but when it does you could be on the highway when falls off! Please share this with as many people as you can; especially anyone owning a 2007 Jeep Compass or Patriot.
I urge anyone else with this problem to consider joining me in pursuing a class action suit.

Are you kidding me? They want you to wait until there's a large enough hole or it falls off. That's like seeing a fuel line that's rusted out and saying let's wait till it's leaking or it starts a fire.

That's stupid, have you called Chrysler head office and customer care to get their input on that?

these issue need to be reported to your respective Government safety regulators. They're force recall on this as for other items.

You can't be expected to wait for a total failure. FIAT-CHRYSLER does not have their customer interests as a priority. The just want to sell the junk they make so poorly and cash in your hard earned dollars. Hence I left buying any of their brands after this one. My son just bought Ford Explorer, I as below driving a Sante Fe. I am watching mine as best I can but it is rusting and a lot of the problem its the front support is hollow with water salt getting inside little can be done to stop it. Its a ticking time bomb. Rear once I am not certain about but they are failing clearly.

We do have a Jeep representative on the forum. Maybe JeepCares can help you out if you send them a PM about the rusting problem?

They gave an answer above that was definitely not a sufficient one... The answer was sort of irrelevant at this point considering OPs post.

I got a letter today stating the Front and Rear sub frame rust problem will be warrantied to 10 years so I guess with 2009 builds 2019 is the end and they fall apart. 2007's ending this year.

This is in Canada!!

Just had my front and rear crossmembers on my 2008 compass done today. Only had to pay a couple hundred bucks out of pocket for some parts that weren't salvage.

I just received a letter today extending the warranty on my 2009 Jeep Compass for the front and rear crossmembers. What type of repairs would constitute that this was the issue? I have had 2 lower control arms replaced and a rear adjusting arm replaced and an adjusting toe arm replaced within the last 3 years. Are these type repairs an indication of crossmember problems?
