Building Roof Basket

Hey guy im getting tired of waiting on RRO on making a roof rack so until they do and then I blow my money on it im thinking about making my own ive seen a lot of videos on youtube on how to make them I have access to a welder and im a pretty good back yard welder (learnt by welding trailer toungs and tractors) but I was wondering what I should use for metals so its not to light to bend but not to heavy to kill me I plan on putting my spare tire on it due to it don't fit in my spare tire holder cause well its to big I have 235/65/R17 so it has to be big and strong enoff to hold that what do you all think heres a link im thinking about doing it like this

I was thinking of using six 1x1 steel tubing its weights with be about .63 pounds per ft and I would need around 6-7 for alittle extra but I need around 35 ft to build the upper frame and base id use angle iron 1/2x1/2 for middle support its .38 pounds pre ft and I use 1/4 no. 20 flattened expanded metal ( like stuff on barrel grills) .
83 pounds sq ft so it should weight about 35-40 pounds but under 50 pounds ifi did all my math right what do u all think

Got all my weights for the metal at http://www.coyotesteel.com/assets/img/PDFs/databook.pdf
