2007 Compass Pulls to Left When Accelerating, With Solution!

Ever since I got the Compass I noticed that it pulled the the left when accelerating and then pull to the right when I let off. It was not severe but noticeable. I had the oil changed at the local Good Year and was told that the right front ball joint was loose to the point that it was in danger of coming apart. Along with this was an estimate of around $350.00 to replace it.

I ordered both front control arms online with ball joints and bushings installed. Cost was $45.00 including shipping for the pair. When I went to change the control arm I noticed that for one, the control arm looked like it had been replaced recently and that the front attaching bolt was only finger tight. Being I had the new control arm I went ahead and swapped it out. Instead of the dried out, loose, rusty ball joint I was expecting I found a nearly new ball joint that had no play at all.

I am convinced that the play I was experiencing was from the loose cross member bolt and not from the ball joint. So, anyone with the symptoms listed, it is at least worth crawling under the car with a 16mm wrench to check that the front bolt is tight.

I have the estimate and the control arm in my car and am going to the shop over my lunch break to let them know my findings and let them know they have lost my business for good.

I am experiencing something similar. Not that noticeable on dry pavement but snow and ice is here, it drives like a snake on the road (left-right-left-right)

I will check bolts on the front end.

If the bolt is tight, then I'm wondering if worn out bushings on a control arm could also create this phenomenon?

After recently going from VWs to the Jeep, I noticed this strange phenomena as well, I took it in to a tyre place and had the alignment done, pretty much got rid of it although still slightly present, but way worse before I had it done.

Apparently its common in Front wheel drive cars for this, although I have never experiences it until the Jeep!

I also noticed rust holes in my subframe now, I have a new subframe, so it might be a combined problem, apparently subframe rust outs are common, which might allow for extra play and therefore it pulling one way or the other.

Am I reading this right? You've replaced the subframe and the replacement parts are rusting too? Or are you saying the alignment is sloppy after the subframe was replaced?

Maybe its just where you placed that comma.
Did you mean to say: "I also noticed rust holes in my subframe, now I have a new subframe"?

Yeah I guess maybe that doesnt read right.

My Factory subframe at 8 years old has rust in it, close to where the lower arms mount, which I wont know how bad it is until I remove it (as you cant see everything when its under the car), So I have a new subframe in the garage which is a new replacement part and the welds had some rust on them already! I have cleaned them off and am giving it a coat of some more paint to help protect it.

I have recently had the alignment done and will probably have to get it done again with the new subframe, but having even just done that its definitely better than it was.
