Popping Sound from Rear

Last month I purchased a brand new 2019 Jeep Compass Trailhawk. I've put 1,200 miles on it so far.

I've noticed when I go over any speed bumps, or up and over a hill that causes the car to "jump" and extend the suspension I hear a popping sound from coming from the rear. It won't make a pop sound if I go over the speed bump extremely light/slow.

Been debating if I should take back to dealer and have it checked. Any insights would be helpful.

I've had an occasional metallic "pop" sound from the rear ever since I've had it. 33k miles with no issues so far. I wonder what it is sometimes but I don't really worry about it.

Hi nmarketti & arudlang,

We certainly understand why this would be concerning. Please let us know via private message if you decide to have your dealers look into this. We would like to have this formally documented and provide an additional layer of assistance during the process if it would be of interest.

We kept hearing a thumping noise in our new 2018 Compass when driving over bumps and we ended up having to have the sway bars replaced. Vehicle has less than 30,000 on it. It’s been one thing after the other with vehicle since we bought it! New engine before it even had 4500 miles on it, electronic issues no one can explain, FCA is a joke. Would like to deliver this piece of junk right back to the dealership but.......

Good Morning,
We're sorry to hear about your experience. Has a case been opened on the Customer Care side to ensure this is documented as well as connect you with a case specialist to work with you and your dealer? If not, please send our team a private message and we would be happy to get this process started for you!

Garage
Had the same issue with my Trailhawk about a year ago. They replaced the sway-bar links that took care of the problem. That was around 25- 30,000 miles. I am now at 65,000 and it doing it again. So it will be heading back into the shop. Should be covered under warranty, if not I will find some heavier aftermarket one to replace these.
