VVT engine only in Compass

Im wondering why bigger engines like 3.7L or bigger ones are not VVT or those trucks have CVT transmission.

Compass with a 2.4L engine gives 170 hp, that is like 70.8hp per liter. And in grand cherokee 2010 3.7L, it only gives 210HP, that is 56.7HP per liter. Why not use a better motor with VVT or DOHC, 3.7L is not VVT and is SOHC.

This is a matter of dollars???..... Dodge Durango is 3.6L V6 and gives 290hp... that means 80.5 hp per liter.

When buying a truck i think performance and eficiency is also a point to take in account.

Any opinion???

I am not sure but I believe honda was one of the first useing VVT and getting a lot of HP and performance out of the small engines. I could be torque and how well they work loaded even a bit. For example I have towed a light trailer 6ft x 6ft either empty or with some old kitchen cablinets in them. That small load which is mostly wind drag behind really sends the gas millage way down into the teens for sure. I could see my gas gauge way lower at the same place on the highway that I fuel up without towing. This trailer was a base from a camper box that I rebuilt for moving small items and not wanting a much wider heavier one behind me. Also the CVT revs much higher with it on sensing the load.

Thats another reason I use a platform if I can which does not have the same effect.

That is an interesting point. My Ram has the 3.7L, rated at 215hp/235lb/ft which I still never understood the reasoning behind doing that in a full size half ton truck. The fuel mileage rivals that of the HEMI and it's a smaller engine pulling the same weight, but I digress lol.

My thought is, part of it may be cost savings, though can't be much but more of an effort to comply with EPA regulations in producing more fuel efficient vehicles. What I also find interesting with the Chrysler engines, 2.4L DOHC with VVT, the 4.7 V8, no VVT or MDS and the 5.7 HEMI with MDS. Have to love having options eh lol?

Im looking after a new SUV. I really love JEEPs but when looking after engines in grand cherokees, we can only see low HP per liter. If you start looking after Honda Pilot you can see also a good SUV to be considered.

Well, let see how it goes this year. I will let you know my choice. i hope i will be a jeep spirit one.

I could be wrong but Honda Pilot uses Premium high octane gas. $$$$ more to drive. Honda Ridgeline 4x4 my buddie has one. One his second one on lease and they're fantastic. No problems!!!!
