aftermarket sunroof installation

I am considering an aftermarket sunroof with the hollandia 300 retractable fabric sunroof or the 300 series which is a spoiler style. Has anyone done a aftermarket sunroof and if so what kind of luck have you had?

Just my two cents: Why cut a hole in the roof when its good and doesn't leak? I mean it would be nice but is it worth a leaky roof? OMG WTF no it isn't... But taking all that into consideration it might be really cool. How big would it be? I mean I have to admit that having a sunroof ****s all over not having one. But... then again, having a leak-free roof is way better than a leaky roof... I would just be worried about the leaking which has got to be one of the most annoying things that can happen in a car. My friend's car leaked with no sunroof and the water would pour out of the cabin light and everywhere. Just when you thought you were out of the rain, no! You're still in it!!! It followed you into the car!!! (now hold something to catch the water and drive at the same time...) So no I have no experience with this but not something I would try.

ya I must admit the idea sounds kinda stupid...and you risk all the leaks...I'm thinkin it wouldn't be cheap either.....If it's that important to you and you are going to have it done...you better do your research, DO NOT get your back yard mechanic to do it...It's gonna cost a fair bit to have it professionally installed, but if I was to do it, that is the route I would go...spend the money and have it done right, don't cut corners on something like this!!!

sunroof

contacted automotive concepts, they do approx. 3 sunroofs a day. I think I am going to do the series 700, it is like oem with a sliding cover. It has drain tubes and is guaranteed by a 3/36,000 warranty and made by Hollandia which is a good company. About $1400.00 installed. I inspected one that was just completed and the work looked good. When it is done I will post pictured in my garage. The allure of the sun in my face is just to tempting not do this.

Well at least you are doing it right. For me, that much money is enough for a painted body kit and rear spoiler for my 09, and a CAI. But in the long run you would get to appreciate it day after day so it would be money well spent. It's your car!

Mark the calendar on the way to the 4th year its leaking. OEM install roofs can leak and they do lots.

On a hot day your head is cooking if its open but not too bad if its well tinted and closed with a draft opening.

I'll keep my tin roof and just turn on the A/C me or my passenger don't look up while driving anyway.

Oh yea that's right, you are Mr. positive, telling people not to buy a compass on the Compass blog a little late isn't it.Well I will take my chances and have a ball and if it Leaks it's gone, but a great many people have gone 9 to 10 years before leaking and I will never have it that long.

I say go with the retractable fabric - it looks like the factory Skyslider in the Liberty and makes your Compass unique, more interest when you sell it than a standard sunroof

Have you seen any installs for that model? Leaking is obviously a big risk but look how many rag top convertible sports cars there are...

I called 2 installers, neither one will do the fabric one, just to many problems.
They sell about 95% of the sunroofs as the 700 model.

That's a Bad sign if even the people making money off it wont do it. That means they are almost 100% sure it will have problems. A glass one would be just as good no?

Good Luck!

Photo from the inside would be nice. Is there a shutter to clothes off on the inside?
