Overall Compass impressions

I just bought a 2010 compass with 32000 miles. I bought it thinking that it will be a good bet with the low miles. It was a rental vehicle. I can live with the lack of features and the kind of cheaply made interior. What I really was looking for was reliability. After reading some postings I am kind of discouraged. My Compass also has a vibration at idle in drive with the foot on the brake. So, in general, do you fellow owners like your compass? I could use some encouragement.

I like it, but make sure that you are aware that the front ends ands struts are prone to need replacement.
If you have the warranty then use it to its full potential.

I wouldn't buy another after this, but I love the car now that its all fixed.

Now I own a 2012 Compass that will complete 4 months tomorrow, but before this one, I owned a Jeep Patriot and another Jeep Compass.

I am very comfortable with the car features and characteristics and can't think of another vehicle that suits my need better than this one in terms of size, capability during harsh Canadian winters and some light offroading during hunting season with a decent gas mileage.

As any other vehicle, there are issues and problems that can occur, but remember that as in it happens with any product, the most comments you'll see are the ones from people with problems, because the big majority of people won't take their time to out of the sudden, just start writing how ok the products they bought are functioning, usually they do that when something goes wrong

All I wish you is to have the same good luck with your Compass as I had with all my Jeeps

I love the car when it is running as it should. Like Bruno said, usually you don't hear the positives straight away.

I would look into the 2014's, but I'm going to wait until the consumer reports are out. I'd hate to sink all that money into it and then find out the same problems are occurring.

I'm not sure what other small SUV's are in the same market for comparison. I'm content with my Compass for now and wouldn't trade it until the payments are done.

All cars have problems somewhere along the line, it's real easy to get hung up on bad reviews because that's what's all over the interweb. What's good though is the complaints let you know what you can look out for. If you want more piece of mind, consider an extended warranty. The dealership will push it and push it because just like buying a TV at Best Buy, they make an extra buck that way and are banking on you not needing it. But it could come in handy and pay for itself, you never really know.

I'm in the market for a 2014.. Trading in a 2010 ford escape, still owe about 3k but if I can get 14-15k that should still make a nice dent. I've been following the rumor sites with the new Liberty/Cherokee but I'd rather not buy a year 1 car, that's when you have the most issues. Get something a few model years later and most of the big problems should be fixed.

Thank you all for the wisdom! I was used to jeep Cherokees and the compass is a different animal. I am settling in to the Compass. I know I will enjoy it. I have an appointment to have the vibration when idling in drive checked out. I will have them check the struts also. I will feel better when I know what is going on.
Again thank you for the wisdom!

Hi All,
I just posted on new member introduction having just bought a 2013 Compass. Just over 2000 miles so far. As I mentioned in that post I am new to the Jeep family. I am having a real problem with the blind spots this vehicle has. It also seems to wander back and forth a bit. My Escape which I bought new in 2002 traveled very nicely down the road even when tire pressure might have gotten a bit low on one side or other. It traveled straight and true. When I take it in for it's first oil change I'll have them look at it.

Now for the nice things. As Necros said all cars have some issues, but a lot of people will rant and rave about the negative but not the positive. First of all I like the mpg much better than the Escape. I am now getting 21.8 mpg around town and being winter I expect that to improve come warmer weather. I haven't really done any highway distances yet. My Escape only got 17mpg and maybe 22 on a extended highway trip. So 21.8 is better, but no where near the 30 the salesman said.

I like the CVT. Never had one before, and at first it took a bit of getting used to, but now I am liking it very well. The Compas has handled some very heavy, deeper snow quite nicely also. I feel very secure in driving some of this nasty weather we have had and are having now.

I like the way the rear seats fold down. No hassling with folding the seats forward and then folding them down like the Escape. Just pull the release and fold them down. I have used it to haul my music gear around and loading the equipment in is a breeze. I aso have hauled several 100# bags of feed quite nicely loading and unloading.

And I must not forget the rear mirror defrosters. I just love them.

Any way I hope that as I become more familiar with my Compass I will many more nice things to say about it and hopefully not too many negative things. But most of all I hope my wife can find a few nice things to say about our new car.
