Jeep® Renegade VS Compass 2014 FDI or FDII

Hi all,

Today I am trying to compare those two SUV and see which well be better:

I know many people don't consider them for offroading or good enough for camping but I think they are wrong! And I know some members of this forum proven how strong is the compass and it appears to be the cause of the Renegade!

Keeping in mind I am coming from the FJ cruiser fully loaded and my latest project 98 2dr Tahoe and weekly sand/duns offroading..

Back to subject Iam trying to do this comparison because I think many still against the generation of 4X4 like the Suzuki and other mini

The first is the Renegade:

Main specs:
1- Trail Rated® with Best-in-Class 4x4 capability.
2- Class-exclusive[3] Jeep® Active Drive Low 4x4 system with 20:1 crawl ratio
3- Class-exclusive[2] Selec-Terrain® system featuring five settings including Rock mode
4- 0.8-inch lift with off-road suspension and hill descent control
5- 17-inch off-road aluminum wheels with aggressive tires
6- Red tow hooks, skid plates, off-road fascias, black roof and roof rails
7- 2.4L Tigershark® engine with class-exclusive[2]
8- nine-speed automatic transmission

CURB WEIGHT: 3350-3500 lb (est)
Ground clearanc: 8.7 in (Trailhawk version if not -0.8 in)
*Renegade Trailhawk has 8.1 inches of wheel articulation.

184 hp (137 kW) @ 6400 rpm
177 lb·ft (240 N·m) @ 4400 rpm

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The second is the compass:

Main specs:
1- 2.4L engine
2- CVT
3- up to 28 hwy mpg
4- 2" lift kit (added future by us)
5- 18-inch painted pocket aluminum wheels
6- Projector headlamps

EPA Classification: 4WD Sport Utility Vehicles
Gross Weight: (lbs)4,575
Ground clearanc: (in)8.1 (+ 2.0 in for RRO lift kit) Extra +0.5 (in) if the tires size 215/65-17 (thanks to LordReddawg)

SAE Net Horsepower @ 6000 RPM: 172
Displacement: 2.4L/144
SAE Net Torque @ 4400 RPM: 165

* Keeping in mind the Ground clearance:
1- Wrangler Unlimited -------------------= 10.1 inches
2- FJ Cruiser -----------------------------= 9.6 inches

3- 2015 Renegade ----------------------= 7.9 inches
4- 2015 Renegade Trail Rated -----------= 8.7 inches

5- 2014 Compass Latitude --------------= 8.1 inches
6- 2014 Compass Trail Rated ------------= 9.1 inches

7- 2014 Compass Trail Rated +RRO lift----= 11.1 inches

So if any person want to chose one of the above, what to chose and why?

Sorry if I got any info wrong I am trying my best alone !

I well update this subject soon

Need help to know the hight from ground to wheelbase for both of them!!

If you have any input please say it

I am comparing both because I think they well be the new market light wight easy on fuel and small body yet they have the trick's of the big trucks I remember the Suzuki jimny:

True it is small actually mini but on sand and dunes it performed equally to the old school trucks!

For me I choosing the new school (mini SUV) unfortunately locally we have two options:
1- sport FDI
2- limited FDI

And the only trails we have are SAND!

After viewing the engines I would say I like the compass setup much more than the renegade! (And the front too)

info u can add is that on trail rated they have 215\65 r17 so they hve one Inch more on clearance at 9.0 inches while the not rated has 215\60 r 17 are at 8.1 so u can add that with the RRO lift kit cause most move up to the larger one even if they dont get or afford the rated Version like my self

you know what, I found some info on allpar site an article they rateed the ground clearance as following:
1- 2014 Compass Latitude = 8.1
2- 2014 Compass Trail Rated = 9.1
3- 2015 Renegade = 7.9
4- 2015 Renegade Trail Rated= 8.7

So if we added the 2.0 RRO lift we get 11.1

Good, I am so excited to see your results,
I am still waiting for my dealer to receive the compass and I was told by them any modification well lose the warranty unless it is by Mopar!! So I have to prove to them that RRO lift is some how Mopar/Jeep friendly

the problem is when you have to deal with a dealer dont understand what ... look I am dealing with a dealer really dont want to do anything! most of the workers dont know any thing and to add on top of all of this they call me some times to ask how to turn or off a function man I am sepreised how did Chrysler signed with them and much more important how they are still the exclusive dealer

Just to answer the question of if the lift well void my warranty or not! I had to go through few high ranked people in this (act like) dealership until I finally was allowed to meet the area service and parts manager (as they call him) and he told me I should find a connection proves that it is Mopar or relative and even if you find if any thing connected to this mod failed non well be under warranty but you still have full warranty on the rest of the SUV (for the record he was good and cleared I think there is a great future for him he seams like the person who knows what he is doing but surround by those who want to do Nothing!)

So you just given me a way through could you please help with the email link so I can contact them please

Regarding the size different between the MK FDI and FDII

I found the following:
- FDI tire size: 215/60-17
- FDII tire size: 215/55-18

The different size means the 18 inch wheel is delivering:
- Diameter: 0.15 inch
- Sidewall height: 0.42 inch

If we chose to keep the 17 wheel and change the tire size only, the following:
- FDI tire size: 215/60-17
- New tire size: 215/65-17

The different size means the 65 sidewall tire is delivering:
- Diameter: 0.85 inch
- Sidewall height: 0.42 inch

Source this great tool: 215/60-R17 vs 215/65-R17 Tire Comparison - Tire Size Calculator
