Air Conditioning and Heat Control knob

First time poster...I have a 2010 Jeep Compass Sport (70,000 miles) this is actually my wife's vehicle. I just get stuck with all the repairs on this thing and within the last year it's starting to get costly...

I recently replaced the lower control arm (one side), front wheel bearings (both sides), crankshaft sensor, idler pulley and alternator pulley...and that's just within the last 5 months!!!!

Here is my current problem....when you turn on the a/c or heat....something is going on with the settings as you click the knob over from left to right. There are 4 clicks (I think its 4, might be 5) for the knob as you turn it to increase the amount of air (low to high). The air comes on with the first click, then the 2nd and 3rd nothing changes and then the 4th click is full blast. So basically the air only works at either low or high, with the 2 clicks in between being ineffective.

Any ideas??? I was told could possibly be the resistor or the switch....

Anyone else had a similar problem?

check around the blower. The resistor pack which may be electronic is the most likely cause. I have had it go in my Grand Cherokee and some other vehicles. To new to rust out but just likely a blown circuit in it. They usually mount very close to the blower outside of the black air housing. You should see a cluster of wires and one going into the motor since that module drops the voltage for the various speeds of the motor.

PS: The front end longevity has been an early wear out issue from the 1st year and once all replace it will likely last much longer if you're not using Jeep parts but aftermarket ones. I have spent more time fixing mine than all the used vehicles I have had collectively with the exception of maybe one which was in bad shape to start with. One does not expect this on a new low millage vehicle.

Pull out the glove box. Very easy or just release the side restraints and let it drop down. The door to the cabin air filter is right behind the glove box. But Jeep does not supply an air filter so its empty. Cheap buggers and don't tell you about it.

You should be able to more easily see where the harness goes.

Yes there is one in mine. I put a filter in when I got it. The tray slides out like a drawer.

This sounds like a resistor, but the computer MAY control all this stuff now, so maybe not.

My 2014 compass came with a cabin filter...
