Well with that millage your 3 years warranty is up but is very low. I'd call Chrysler Customer service and complain about it. They may give into a one time warranty repair for you. If that side is gone you're looking at the other side as well.

Tie rod ends (both sides), Control arms, at minimum. There a lots of post about them failing early especially 2007 year. There is also RockAuto which carries that stuff.

Good luck, I feel your pain. You could phone the local dealer and tell them what broke and that its only xxx miles on it. See what they say or offer since they can approach Chrylser as well. Its worth it, because if you're footing the bill even with aftermarket parts its significant.

David, I'm taking your advice and having the Compass towed by Chrysler to the dealer. Apparently my warranty is not up. I bought the car new in Aug.2008 as a 2007 leftover. Thanks for all your help.

Just a thought I would NOT say how it happened. Other than may a bump going up my driveway etc. Don't mention driving over or hitting something. They may use that as an excuse to charge you for it.

We have updated results for the Compass and Patriot to include owner experiences through December 31, 2010. Other sources of car reliability information won't cover the months since April until the summer or even fall of this year.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2010: 55, about average, small sample size

2009: 36, better than average

2008: 62, about average

2007: 91, about average

All are about average.

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds," to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop.

In the case of the 2008, the percentage with no repairs is about 55, and the percentage of lemons is less than one.

Thank you, once again, to this forum and everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in May and August. Additional participants would enable us to fully cover all model years.

Why am I not surprise the 2009 had dropped a lot since before. I know I have taken mine in so many times and most multiply times to resolve problems that the dealers know me by name!! LOL

I am have been starting to incur expenses on this since the warranty is long gone expect for Powertrain coverages which is not very much at all. I spend more time on this than my 11 year old Grand Cherokee doing repairs it seems.

I fear you've read the results backward. A low repair frequency means there have been few repairs, not many.

It sounds like yours is much worse than most. Unfortunately, this can happen with any car.

Jeep Compass Reliability

I've had good luck with Chrysler products, in spite of what Consumer Reports says. J.D.Powers initial quality survey ranks Jeep ahead of Subaru, Mitsubishi, Mazda, and others. And the local Jeep dealer has been good in terms of service. Even Consumer Reports used to rank the import dealers low on service after the sale (I haven't read their recent ratings).

Thanks, now I holding my breath for a new suite of problems. As if I've not had enough already.

Bugger

Got a call from the dealer wondering if I was interesting in upgrading or the New Grand Cherokee. I told her in no uncertain term. Not a chance with all the trouble I've had I am in the market to experiment with my money to see if its any good. I spent so much time in the garage already that if I was paid I'll be on a long long vacation. Done and Done with Chrysler

JD Power posted a worst car report. LOL guess who is on it big time. Still struggling with issues.

I would think any vehicle 6, 7 & 8 years old are going to have problems no matter what.

My compass has been awesome, and I abuse it quite a lot.

Awesome, just what I was looking for.

I bought a new 2014 Jeep Compass back in September - got the life time warranty because I put a lot of miles on my cars (since buying this Compass in late September I've already put over 16k miles on it). It's looking pretty "moderate" until at least 7 years old for most people (mine probably will be in the shop sooner because of heavy use - plus obviously the 2014 models may have issues previous ones did not have, but its previous models look good), but still looks like it should easily serve me well for as long as I'm making payments on it.

BTW - I am willing to participate in the survey as well. And I'll also say this - I love my Jeep Compass. It got panned by most of the car sites out there, "cheep materials" and "outdated" interior seeming to be the #1 complaints. Well, the only SUV with a lower price tag is the Patriot, which comes to be almost exactly the same if you give the base trim the AC you probably are going to want with it. It was affordable, comfortable, good mpg, and the entertainment deck may look simple, but I personally like that - easy to find everything. It's certainly not as posh as a Lexus, but that wasn't the market Jeep was aiming for with the Compass.

Critics should start evaluating how well a model fares at delivering the targeted goals instead of whether its something they would buy personally...

Reviews are inherently subjective. I always tell people that what matters most is how well they like a car.

Have you signed up to help with the survey? Additional participants are always helpful.

We've updated our reliability stats for the Compass and Patriot to include owner experiences through the end of 2014. In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2014 Compass: 9, low, small sample size
2011 Compass: 55, moderate, very small sample size
2010 Compass: 86, high, small sample size
2009 Compass: 67, moderate, small sample size
2008 Compass: 89, high
2007 Compass: 101, high, small sample size

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds", to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop:

2008 Compass: 46, 8

We'll have further updates in May and in August. Additional participants badly needed--I'd like to lose those sample size notes and provide more precise stats.
