2011 jeep compass CLADDING

looking to buy a new 2011 compass north.but looking at all the exterior cladding,i wonder how durable is this plastic,(probably made from water plastic bottle)can it resist small stone chips and small road debris.on painted surface you can always used touch-up paint, but on black cladding what do you do to keep your compass looking like new for months even years, remember gm avalanche trucks, honda elements, all full of cladding,it as been removed on newer models.i wonder why!? nobody ever talk about this, because bad lokking cladding means more depreciation at trading time, right!
also tell me why are at lease 80% of cars and suvs today are all black on the interior, you have to shop real hard to get another color than black interior, why is thatis it because all seats and carpets nowadays are made from recycle water bottle and can only be produce in black, weird
those car interiors.
hope someone in the field can give me a logical answer.
happy motoring to all

I know a lot of people have complained about the chrome cladding on the 4th gen trucks, a lot of whom were fooled by it, thinking it was the real deal only to be disappointed later. I haven't heard much about how they hold up to the kind of things you're asking about, but people do say they're relatively easy to maintain. As for the interior colors, hadn't really thought about that. I was hoping to get away from gray, but that's what I get for buying two silver vehicles lol.

I got some bad news! The black pillars, between the front side window and back side window, is not plastic! It's basically truck bed liner, sprayed on. It's horrible. That part definately won't hold up.

The rest of the black plastic can be cared for and treated with every good car wash and will look new for as long as you own the car.

I guess they're using bed liner parts pillars now. It unique, right!

The B pillar on my Compass was not sprayed on, it's a sticky type tape that I've actually seen a few people remove since it's so easily damaged anyway and gives a much cleaner look without it, IMO.

That no different than my 09. You can feel the seam on the tape the use. So no change on that for the 2011. I have no plans to remove mine (no reason) since is like new and I am not one to look for trouble. It finds me easy enough keeping me busy. I don't go looking for it anymore.

It's nice to know its tape and not sprayed on. Easier to remove if needed. I wonder what it looks like removed?
