I want to switch out my tail lights because they do not have the Amber Blinker in it and I did find a replacement through Mopar in NY... Apparently Canada, Mexico and European countries have the Amber blinker in their tail light, not USA.... I switched out my tail lights with the ones I wanted with the Amber Blinker and they do not work. I went to my dealership with the tail light and they have no explanation why it does not work... it's a simple plug-and-play part and they are looking into it... I have been told that the computer sends a signal to where and when the blinker goes but not how the light bulb works. Very frustrating.
Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated!
The lights and virtually everything else are controlled through the CANBUS system (network of small computers) and it has crap built in to let you know when bulbs are burnt out and all kinds of stuff. Virtually nothing is plug-n-play when it comes to lights and FCA vehicles. Sometimes you get lucky but a lot of times...
While the first part of what you said is true, you can most definitely get plug n play lights but must buy them with build in load decoders. Amazon sells them but beware of cheap junk.
If you look at the number of wires on the plug it might explain some things. I put a euro front headlight in a 2018 jeep compass and the signature light did not light up. I looked at the wires going into the plug and realized that there are no wires to light the signature lights. It looks like Jeep put a wiring harness that only supports the lights that come with your vehicle. If you want to have more
functionality you will need to supply power and ground to the pins that have no wires going to them.
There is no such thing as a "load decoder", there are LED bulbs with resistors that try to fool a car expecting an incandescent load but that is a piss-poor solution to say the least, and that is only talking about changing the bulb this guy was trying to change the whole style of light from an integrated brake/turn signal as one bulb to one with separate bulbs for brake/turn.
I know is old. But i was interesting in this option two and i figured out its probably an option with AlfaOBD... maybe changing "Conbined Rear Lighting" to not enable works?
