Drive shaft

Hi all. I'm new here and new to the whole Jeep world. We just purchesad a 2014 Jeep compass 5 months ago. All was well until a few weeks ago it started shaking real bad. It's our inly vehicle at the moment. I climbed underneath today and seen the carrier bearing is shot and the front u-joint is broke. My question is, am I out of commission till I get this repaired? You can not just replace the carrier bearing and u-joint. You have to buy the whole driveshaft with everything attached. If I pull the front part of the shaft iff the spendle a small amount amount if fluid leaks. Can I just drive without the shaft like a front wheel drive vehicle it will I damage something? I can't afford to be down while waiting in the part and can't afford to buy it for another week. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
