Jeep Compass EcoAuto Rebate - Denied????

After 2.5 months of owning my vehicle I get a letter from the Rebate program that my Jeep does not qualify and I cannot get the $1000 rebate! WTH?

Quote:
Your vehicle is not on the Transport Canada list of eligible vehicles. This list can be found at website:
http://www.tc.gc.ca/programs/environmen ... bility.htm

Now, I don't know what kind of staff they have working there at the Government of Canada, but obviously they don't have very good vision benefits or they would see it is there in black and white! Arg! What a bunch of morons!
I swear, after buying this vehicle, every stupid thing that can happen, has! (Did I mention they STILL have not gotten the parts back to fix my bushings and sway bar from the dealer??) lol
Oh dear god...
Anyhow, the man I called on the phone kept saying it wasn't approved for a 4x4. First of all, it is. And second of all, I have a 2x4.

Anyone else have this issue??

Re: Jeep Compass EcoAuto Rebate - Denied????

It should be on the list. I checked before I bought mine and it was on there. Mines a 4x4 with the 5 speed. In fact I phoned and confirmed it was on there with the ministry. Its only been a couple of weeks since I sent it in though, so I'm still waiting!

I seem to recall only 5 speed 4x2 actually make the cut. My brothr got a 4x4 patriot 5 speed and was denied.

Re: Jeep Compass EcoAuto Rebate - Denied????

So to sum it up. 2007 model years, only 4x2 Manual and Auto were approved.

2008 model years, Both 4x2s and the 4x4 Manual only. NOT 4x4 Auto.

Re: Jeep Compass EcoAuto Rebate - Denied????

It sounds like someone did not read your application correctly or did not check off the proper fields on the electronic form correctly. Call them and verify what information they entered for your vehicle?

(Maybe they used the VIN and one or more fields in it are not correct?)

Re: Jeep Compass EcoAuto Rebate - Denied????

Rebate ..schmeebate ...

Bought a 2007 Jeep Patriot ( 4x4 ) ..in May of 2007 ... at the time, Chrysler Canada was advertising my exact vehicle as being eligible for the $1000 ecoAuto rebate ... this ad was in an insert in our local paper during the month of May .. panel showing my vehicle with a little red rectangle stating 'Eligible for $1000 cash bonus'.

Salesman explained that the forms should be available sometime later in the year.

When I sent in the application in Dec/07 .. it was denied and after talking to Transport Canada, they claim that no changes were made to the eligiblity list after it was sent to the manufacturers on or about March 20/07, and suggested that Chrysler had erred.

Chrysler Canada is not taking responsibility for the obvious mistake .. as a matter of fact .. I have been 'stonewalled' and practically ignored, not only by Chrysler Canada but also by my dealer ..(I have been with them for twenty some years with a new car every three or four years ..).

I have exhausted all non adversarial avenues .. my next step seems to be the courts .. and I have become so pissed off over the past six months that the courts seem like a refreshing possibilty.

At the beginning, I would have gladly accepted an apology and a couple of free oil changes ... now .. well ... we'll see.

My last letter to the dealer, containing copies of just about everything I had, including the actual advertisement, was sent over a month ago ...

Hmm .. venting does feel pretty good ...yes?

Ok, so I looked into it and I should get it in the next few months Grrrr for having to wait! The sales person marked it as an AUTOMATIC and that's why it was denied! It's a 5 speed.

Re: Jeep Compass EcoAuto Rebate - Denied????

Can anybody explain how come the '07 5-speed 4x4 is not eligible whilst the '08 qualifies??
Was there any change to provide better fuel economy?
How much better could it have gotten??
There does not seem to be significant improvements on the 2x4 models consumptions acceptable in '07 compared to the '08.
Just does not make cents (sense)!

The only thing I can see is the slight difference in the fuel ratings, and I mean slight. The 2007 is rated at 9.3 for the city and 7.4 for the highway. The 2008 is 9.2 for the city and 7.3 for the highway. It must of been just enough to bump the 2008 into the program.

I still see ads in the paper for that. They have a 4x4 compass with auto and they say it qualifies for the rebate when it doesn't! I guess they just claim its a misprint! Buyer beware!

The 2 X 2 gets better mileage than the 4 X 4.

I was just notified that my 2007 Jeep Compass 2.4 l cvt vehicle does not qualify. When I purchased my 2007 jeep compass the rep at the dealership advised me that it did qualify and when i contacted him this person has now denied the conversation. How can they get away this stuff like this?

Yes I have. The dealership told me in 2007 that my 2007 compass 2.4L CVT was one of the vehicles that qualified now they back tracking and are denying it.

The 4x4 CVT doesn't qualify and never has. In either 2007, or 2008. But the 2008 4x4 with manual transmission does. The manual transmission offers potentially better fuel economy over the CVT version, though in reality it depends entirely on how its driven.

As for why the 2007 4x4 manual tranny version doesn't qualify, while the 2008 model does.... As I understand it, the 2008 4x4 system is also somewhat different than the 2007 4x4 system. On the 2008 the 4x4 really just locks in 50/50 split distribution of torque to the front and rear at low speeds. Where as under normal driving conditions, torque is generally placed to the front (for fuel economy) and distributed to the back only during episodes of drive wheel slippage. It seems to me I recall reading the 2007 system worked slightly differently, though I don't recall the details.

As for the issue of being misinformed....

The Transport Canada website does show which models qualify and which ones don't. I would not recommend taking anyone's word it. For anyone out there considering a purchase based on the availability of the eco-rebate... check with Transport Canada. They are the ones offering the rebate, not the dealerships.

And make sure that all the paper work for your purchase is accurate and contains all the detailed information requested by the rebate program.

I also purchased a 2007 4x4 and was told by the dealer only the 5sp manual qualified. So they ordered one in and we purchased it, we applied for the rebate and was denied also. I went back to the dealer and they said they dont support this program. I was warned by many local people not to purchase my vehical from this dealer in Collingwood. I learned my lesson. Since then we have had very poor service from this dealer, we were promised a free oil change ( first one) this was deinied too, even tho it was in writing.

Either way we still love our Jeep Patriot.

The Transport Canada must have known something because, moderate driver that I am, after over 20K-km my fuel consumption averages out to about 11.88L/100km . . . . since August average has been over 13L/100km, car is going in Monday for service & winter tyres so maybe it will improve following service.

The eco rebate is not a dealer program. The dealer has nothing to do with it. The 2008 4x4 5-speeds qualified but I don't think the 2007 ever did.
I bought my Jeep Compass from Collingwood and liked dealing with them. But I've never had the Compass in for service there either. I wouldn't but from Orangeville Chrysler so I drove almost a hour to get to Collingwood.

The 2007 4x4 never qualified for the program, whether CVT or manual transmission. I feel bad for you Carl. It sucks to be misinformed like that. But I have to ask... did you go to the Transport Canada website to check it our for yourself? I made our saleman prove to me that the vehicle qualified, then I also double checked with my own research on the Transport Canada website. I would highly recommend that anyone who is looking for these rebates do the leg work so they are more certain of receiving the benefits of the programs.
