break in period.. please help!

So I got a Compass... and it is awesome! Unfortunately no one told me about the break in period and I havent heard about it until I have already driven it 83 miles.. So I was reading up on the break in period.. I drove 95 home for about 40 minutes.. but was in between 60-80 mph... then home in the city driving around. I really dont want to mess this truck up.. its my first brand new car..
Advice.. please.. as I am sposed to go back to dealer tmrw to bring them my trade-ins title. ASAP response greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the site!

There will be lots of mixed opinions on break in periods for new cars. My usual rule is not to go over 4k RPM for the first 1000 miles.

Just drive the car. Modern piston rings aren't like those when our dad's drove cars years ago. Just keep your oil level full and change it regularly. I do mine every 3k.

you're throwing money away. much like the break in period is a thing of the past, so are 3k mile oil changes. for the 2011 MY compass, oil changes are recommended every 8k miles.

X2, manual says oil change every 8,000 miles. Only thing I have ever changed the oil 3k or sooner is my camaro cause I beat the snot out of it in the summer and then change the oil before it goes up on jackstands in the garage for the winter.

I didn't really have a choice to follow the "recommended" break in period on the Compass or my truck. Bought the vehicle one day and had to turn back around the next and commute an hour to work at speeds well over 55 lol and neither vehicle gave me any complaints about it but I agree, just drive it like you would ordinarily. I had my first oil change done right around the 2500 mile mark though just to get the break in oil out.

Change it at 3,000 the first time, there may be metal particles left in there from when the engine was built, but then after that your good for 6,000 to 8,000 miles.

the oil change indicator should come on around 2,500 for the first oil change, then somewhere between 7k and 8k from there on.

I agree with you guys - do the first one between 2500 - 3500 miles. And then I plan to do the next one at 10,000 miles and then every 5,000 thereafter.

Break-in it's funny for me every car goes on dyno for pass the quality assurance and why you should pay attention about rpm when they redline your engine in the manufacture....

anyway I break-in my last 20 cars like drove like you stole it! and I never had any issue.

I agree with jeepguy2010. The 1st oil change I would change at 2-3K miles because of the metal particles during the break in period. After that I would change the oil every 6-8K miles if that is what is in the book.
