2014 Compass manual shifter knob removal

Just bought a 2014 Compass and I'm curious if anyone knows how to remove the shifter knob on a manual transmission? I seen another forum online where others suggested the only way is to cut it off but I find that hard to believe and would hope there is a way to remove it. If anyone can help me out that be great, thanks in advance!

It's press fit on, with an adhesive holding it to a knurled surface. Pull and twist would be the best way.

Clyde--True Blue Pearlcoat 2016 Compass Sport 2.4L 6-speed. Additions since brand new in September of 2016: 4X Alpine SPJ-691C3, Weathertech floor liner Front only, Scosche Magi-Mount, USB charging port added to glove box, USB charging ports added to rear passenger area, Hum, Curt 13081 class III receiver. More to come!!

Do you plan on replacing the shift knob? If damaging the oem isn't something you're worried about.. perhaps try a heat gun and throw a cloth over it to twist? It may loosen the adhesive up a bit
