New Compass owner in Columbus, Ohio
Hi folks... I've enjoyed looking over the interesting Compass posts here the last few days. This past weekend, I purchased a 2010 Pearl Green Compass with 2.4L, CVT1 & 29,000 miles on it. I come from a fairly long line of jeeps, having owned a 2004 Liberty Sport (traded for the Compass, 180,000 miles on it), a 2001 Cherokee (the last model year for that venerable vehicle), a 1998 Grand Cherokee Laredo and a 1996 Grand Cherokee Limited. Prior to that, in the 1970's, I recovered & rebuilt (with lots of help) a Willy's Korean War-era M38A1, which started my passion for Jeeps.
My favorite Jeep (so far) has been the Liberty... good power, handles well off-road, rides OK on road, turns on a dime & didn't cost an arm & a leg. I loved the Grand Cherokee Limited, but not the monthly lease payment. My least favorite?.. the Cherokee. Within 6 months of purchasing it, I knew I had made a mistake. It rode very poorly (although it handled great off road) and had a woefully substandard interior. I was trying to trade that turkey within a year, to no avail.
I've attended two Camp Jeeps to date, both in my home state of Virginia. My family planned vacations around these & always had a wonderful time. I was sorry to see the tradition come to an end. For the small amount of money paid, you got a heck of a return in entertainment.
These days, I'm more concerned with good gas mileage & better on-road handling, hence the Compass. The Liberty got lousy mileage and, with 180,000 miles on it, would have experienced total systemic failure before long. My local dealer had a few nice Compass' & I was able to negotiate well. The car rides very well, especally compared to my poor Liberty, and the initial gas mileage is reassuring. I like all of the electronic stability/traction/braking controls, which should serve me well when (or if) winter finally arrives here.
That's all for now... I'll be lurking about. Thanks-
