New Compass Owner

I am quite happy to be a Compass owner. After reading the "expert reviews" I wasn't expecting much, and was very pleasantly surprised. Was actually leaning toward a 2015 Cherokee when I went to the dealer, but the Compass really seemed to fit me. I took it for a drive and really liked everything about it. No power, but I appreciated how the gas needle barely moved on the ride home.

All the electronic gizmos in the Cherokee worried me a bit. I had a BMW once where if you sneezed something stopped working, same with my old Audi.

My compass is the base model 5-speed, 2.0 -- as basic as it gets. For $13k brand new it was a no-brainer in terms of value, but I really like the ergos, the steering and the ride quality. A very solid little Compass! I was very happy that the Compass was so sweet; otherwise I would be kicking myself for not buying the Cherokee, since it is a really nice ride. There's a lot to choose from in Mopar land these days, even Fiats!

You're welcome. I don't know how many people cross-shop the Compass and Cherokee, but I did and liked the Compass better.

I love the compass. Mine has 235600 miles on it and with proper maintenance barely shows its age. Read my postings and you will see what I have done to keep it running good. And of course welcome to the forum new friend!

Yes, I've read your postings with great interest. I'm especially interested in your method for lubricating the problematic ball joints. So far, my only gripe is a thunking noise out back, which seems to be either the spare tire or the lid covering it. Otherwise, the compass is tight as a drum.

Yes, the jack and spare tire could cause a noise if the securing knob(screw) is loose or if the movable part of the tire wrench is hitting something. But inside the tailgate itself is a solenoid. This solenoid has a movable part of course and I noticed that it is not noise isolated. And don't forget the rear plates. I added screws to the lower section to secure mine. My plates are now noisefree now having 4 screws instead of only two like most cars. I hope this helps. I have been tinkering with cars since I was 12. And oh, check the tailgate speaker. I'll try to find the best way to isolate the solenoid and make it noisefree. And yes one more thing... the rear spoiler where the third stop light is. If you find the source of your noise please let us know. Tks

And, oh another thing. The mid passenger seat belt mount can make a clunking noise too. This is the swivel mount above the subwoofer speaker location. I hope that helps.

I'm a newbie here too. The threads here is informational. I own an '08 Compass. I love my ride and I want to know more how to care for it.
