I'm New! Soon to be a proud owner

Hi everyone.

I'm very excited to join the forum and finally start posting!
I am getting a fully optioned Jeep Compass Limited 4x4 so this is why I've had to wait a while because I wanted Navigation (I've become very reliant on them since my family started to get cars with Navigation and I have an awful sense of direction - geography wasn't my strong point). The dealership was able to order my car as part of their own initial compass inventory so I will get it quicker than I should have as people who go in to order one like mine will have to wait for them to actually build the ones with Navigation to be sold to consumers (I think thats how it was explained to me). There are actually no Jeep Compasses yet with Navigation systems I've been told... anywhere! I just got official word that my jeep compass is going to be made the first week in November so I'm very excited since its been about 3 weeks and no word on if and or when this car would be coming!

I'll keep an eye on these forums as I have since I first found this site.
I decided to get the Metallic Khaki (Like the picture up top). I started out with wanting it in Red with a Beige Interior but i'm fearful that the silver "Compass" in the front, side accents and the back bumper being silver will make it look like lego pieces. SO i called in to change the colour and of course I'm still unsure. The curse of being an indecisive gemini.

I'll be sure to post pictures when it comes and keep you updated.

I actually saw the link to the picture of your car (beautiful baby) and it is the reason I am undecided. You have a dark interior correct?
Everyone said red would suit my personality more but people say the car looks best in this colour. To be honest I personally picked red first..till my family suggested other colours and I became confused!
I didnt really see a picture of your car from the front I'm not sure... but your pictures are the reason why I still remain undecided  They did look good, I just feel as though mine will look different somehow

Do you not think those accent pieces would look better the same colour as the car? Oh BTW I'm getting a pebble beige interior. I think it comes two tone in the red but only one tone in the khaki colour

Awwww thanks for the baby comment

I have the pebble beige interior as well.
My Wife wanted to go with white (but there where no whites to be found without haveing to wait months for an order).
My last car was white and she liked how it matched my motorbike. And that the white dosn't show dirt as well, and she has a point there, got stuck in some rain yesterday and the poor jeep sure looked spotted.
But on the flip side of that, that red is the best looking red I have seen when it's a bright sunny day

welshfyr you have the dark green? that is almost like a jungle/army green? Not the "light" green that is actually the khaki metallic colour correct? Their colour charts are very strange as none of them are what the actual colour looks like in person. I'll check your post for some pictures!

Update: The car has been manufactured so they said to expect it any time from now. I just hope now is very soon *fingers crossed*

Howdy, just found this forum after returning home with our...er, the wifes Compass. She wanted me to drive it as we live at the other end of a heavily traveled, winding and under construction Wildcat Canyon Rd. I drive a 2006 Nissan Titan and I get used to macho, lifted F-250s in the rear view mirror situations, where I pull over at the only legally passable stretch. Today when I hit the real hair pin stuff the pedal-to-the-metal crowd just faded away...unless one off em is still back there up against a boulder. I'm gonna crawl under this thing tommorrow and see how the steering and suspension is put together...that is if I can hide it from the wife before she leaves. Yes it does have Firestones on it but I'll just run some tread off it and replace em.

By the way, what's a snow tire?

It also has some kind of traction package and rack & pinion steering which explains the nice tight steering in the corners. The wife just left for work with the manual so she can do the pre-sets on the radio herself...something she's never done before...I'm gonna have to sneak out at night to get another ride.

The dealership got their information wrong. I'm still waiting and the car has not been built sadly

Does anyone know why there is such a delay in the navigation being built into these cars? I noticed now websites have changed Nagivation to (later availability) and saying that it will be available before the year ends. Its been 1 and a half months already, I think this delay is going to cause them to lose customers as my parents are already asking me to look at other cars as an option since Jeep seems to be out of the loop on their own activities. I thought this car had been available as of August? I would have thought August to October is ample time to get the plants in gear to produce the cars so people don't have to just take whats on the lots.

sodiorable, sorry to hear about the delay. I'm in the same position. Ordered my Compass North 4x4 on September 7, and it still hasn't been manufactured. The sales manager at my dealership "called in a favour" and had my order bumped up the list - though I think that is just a line that they feed buyers. The estimate I was given for delivery was 8 to 18 weeks, and we just passed week 10.

My understanding is that ALL orders are delayed, not just those with navigation. Because they're also building the in-demand Caliber at the same plant, this delays orders even more than they might have already been delayed.

Best of luck with your wait. Let us know what happens!

I really feel bad for you guys having to wait so long.

Webmaster, see if you can find a chart showing the Caliber sales compaired to the Compass sales if you would please.

Many, many, many Caliber owners are complaining about the lack of progress too. I also heard that they were running the plant for 24 hours a day. Not sure if that's still the case. Regardless, demand is definitely greater than supply right now. Maybe that's why I paid full MSRP

Don't know about the cars compaired to the Caliber, but I really did some serious searching on the "crossover suv" class, even at Full MSRP, the Compass came out in the lead for price.

I am just wondering if the Caliber sales are doing better, if they are giving the plant preference to the Caliber and pushing back the Compass orders.

The Caliber is doing much better than the Compass in sales, but don't have the actual figures for the Caliber's sales history. The Caliber has, of course, been available longer than the Compass, but the sales figures still look to be more impressive overall (e.g., September sales of the Caliber were over 8000 units while the Compass came in at just over 3000).

My uncle ordered a Caliber at the end of March 2006, and didn't receive it until mid-July. I think the factory is still working on those backlogged orders of the Caliber and has been whomped with Compass orders. Maybe DCX should have delayed the intro of the Compass by a few months?? With the Patriot rolling out in the new year, I feel sorry for anyone who orders a Compass in Dec or Jan.

I'm going to call their headquarters tomorrow to inquire about the delay and when these cars are actually going to be see the light of day. I'm tired of seeing their commercials and print ads, knowing that I can't even get mine
I guess I will have to look at other cars it they give me a 4 month wait time. If you ask me, they are completely shooting themselves in the foot. JeepChick I do agree with you that they should definately have delayed the introduction of the Compass knowing how far behind they would fall in manufacturing them.

frustrating indeed.

I would expect the caliber is getting more production time as is is selling 3X or more than the compass.

They were having troubles with production there for a while, and I'm not sur they are humming at 100% yet. I do know in the belvidere plant, they are running 24 hours, or at least last I'd heard.

I'm bracing for a 3 month wait myself, at least.

maybe ....

This appears to be a Canadian problem? Just wondering ... I did an inventory search for local dealerships around here (eastern upstate NY) and there are quite a number of Compasses in stock. I did notice that there seems to be quite a few FWD cars and few 4x4s.

indeed you nailed it. I see 4x4s and limiteds to be both in VERY skinny supply here. We test drove one of the 3 4x2 they had, no 4x4s at all, not limiteds.

Someone had suggested they did not have a concrete time for their next run of limiteds, but I guess it is anyone's guess at this point.

As well, I can't see the problem getting any better in the short term with the new Patriots set to land in the new year.

The sunroof is an option on the Limited. I have one on my Limited that we bought off the lot. Are you sure you ordered it with one? You better check your paperwork. If they forgot, I wonder if they could install one for you or else they owe you some money! It's a $850 option in Canada!

No Sunroof? That would suck!
I really like my sunroof so am glad that I got one in my jeep.
If they did 'forget' to install it, I would push for one to be installed at THEIR cost.
