Goodbye Jeep Wrangler JK

Jeep’s Wrangler JK had a long run, but it’s time to say farewell to the long running era. After almost 12 years in production, the last Wrangler JK has rolled off the Toledo assembly line today.

Toldeo Blade calls it “the most successful version yet of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ best known nameplate” and we have to agree. Not many models can last as long as the JK, which was still being produced four months after its successor appeared. According to GoodCarBadCar, Jeep sold over 1.6 million Wranglers since the third generation went on sale around 2007. A staggering amount for just one model.

Now we have the latest iteration, an off-road ready vehicle with three powertrain offering; a new 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder mild hybrid with a 48-volt battery, a diesel V-6 that’s due next year, and the returning V-6 Pentastar engine. With classic Jeep styling and modern infotainment features, the new Wrangler is proving to be a hit if the March sales record is any indication. Jeep sold 27,829 models last month alone, which is around 5,000 more than the same period last year.

Perhaps the JL have an equally successful run, but we’ll have to wait and see.
