Chrysler Group Reports Best June Sales Since ’07; Jeep Compass Biggest Percentage Gainer

Sales of Chrysler Group vehicles were up 30 percent year-over-year, with 120,394 vehicles sold. This gives Chrysler is best ever June sales since 2007. Year-to-date, Chrysler Group (including the Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep and Ram brands) has moved 639,932 vehicles off of its lots and into owners hands, representing a 21 percent year-over-year improvement.
Chrysler Group’s bestselling brand was Dodge with 43,301 vehicles sold, while Jeep posted the best improvement over last year, with 36,114 vehicles sold—a 74% increase.

Chrysler—16,529 units sold, down 8 percent

Chrysler’s new 200 continued to lead its sales last month. Chrysler sold 7219 200s last month which is an 82 percent increase over its often ridiculed Sebring predecessor, which only found 2380 sales in June of last year. Sales of the all new 300 have been somewhat stale thus far, with only 2500 vehicles sold, down 24% year-over-year. Part of the reason might be that the new, redesigned 2011 300 hasn’t completely rolled out yet.

Jeep—36,114 units sold, up 74 percent

Chrysler Group’s Jeep brand had the best overall June, with all of its models posting a sales increase. Aside from the Ram pickup line, the recently refreshed Jeep Wrangler is Chrysler Group’s overall MVP, with its sales rising 27 percent to 11,290 sales. Jeeps all new Grand Cherokee is similarly doing well. Jeep sold 8969 Grand Cherokees last month, compared to 2912 examples it sold of the previous generation Grand Cherokee in June of 2010, giving the 2011 Grand Cherokee a 208% sales gain year-over-year, and a 114% year-to-date improvement. The Grand Cherokees stratospheric gains would have been the overall most improved if it wasn’t for the new 2011 Compass. The Compass sold 4763 units last month, which is a 278 percent improvement over May of last year. The new for 2011 Compass’ new baby-Grand Cherokee facelift might have something to do with its sales increase.
