ground clearance ??

I have a 2015 jeep compass limited. It has fd1 and 18 " wheels. The tires are stock 215/55-18 firestone fire hawk. It would seem like a simple question , but I keep getting different answers. What should be my ground clearance ?

Thanks,
Greg

I have also read that the 8.1 is for the fwd. Others say the freedom 1 and freedom 11 increase the ground clearance to up to 9.1 " . I know that I should gain at least 1/2 " because I have 18 " wheels not the 17" stock wheels. So that would make the 8.1 " go to 8.7 " and or the 9.1" would increase to 9.7 " . Can anyone verify my info.?
I'm trying to decide if the lift of two inches I would gain with the lift kit is worth the 550$ .

Thanks,
Greg

Tried to edit this ,but did not work . I meant to say that if I am correct and have a 9.6 ground clearance I will probably skip the lift and not be concerned about some of the problems that others have mentioned after doing the lift.

I will be looking to put skids plates on though.

Thanks again,
Greg

Here's mine pre and post lift. (the white stick is a 1 foot ruler) After the bigger tires were put on I'm at about 13" of clearance at the rockers.

I'm a pretty big advocate for the lift. It came FAST. Three days after ordering it I was putting it in. It took maybe 4 hours total and I did mine by myself. It's sturdy and well made. There was no reaming of holes or anything like that. The only bad part was the placement of the grease fittings on the rear adjustable upper control arm, but since they are sealed you really should only need to grease them once. When it comes to shimmies and shakes that some people report, mine has had none and I'm not really sure what could have caused that in others Compasses. Mine rides in no way different from before the lift, it's just taller.

Mine feels so much more aggressive now that it's up higher. It rides the trails better and doesn't look like a grocery getter anymore. After plasti-dipping the wheels, it almost looks downright mean.

That's my opinion and to each their own. Make it what you want!

Thanks for the reply Nick!

Well ! I decided to go out and measure the clearance and found that it is about 10.1. Different tires in addition to lift would put me about where you are. Jeep dealer refused to install the RRO lift for me. Something about my warranty ! I'm no mechanic . How I end up with 10.1 ground clearance is a mystery to me . Must be that the freedom 1 does raise the clearance. I was told that the 18 " wheels would only give 1/2 " of lift. Not sure I understand that either.

It was hard for me to bend down to check this before. I did think without measuring that my compass was higher than a renegade and a fwd compass from just looking.

I will ponder the RRO and skids a little longer. I totally agree. Really like your jeep.

Thanks again,
Greg

I wonder where the standard point of measure is? I'm thinking its to the bottom of the pinch welds not the rocker.

It's weird that your dealer refused to put the lift in. The only thing that is stressed any more than normal is the CV axles, and two inches isn't anything crazy. Mopar put the RRO kit on their True North prototype! If you're just driving in snow and mild trails, the lift isn't needed. I like doing intermediate trails in the Rocky Mountains and every extra inch I can get helps. (I know I know, that's what she said...)

I decided to make this clearance thing easier to see. The fd1 must have more ground clearance just as the fd11 does . The pics are of the area closest to the ground next to the wheels front and back. So much for the literature that claims 8.1 ground clearance on the 2015 compass limited with 4x4. I also have the 18" wheels for supposedly 1/2 " increase.

Thanks,
Greg
