Zoner99 - Thank you again for all your insight and information! I went with the hankook dynapro ATM rf10 in a 225-70-16 size with a MB Icon rim 16x7. Unfortunately the Cragar soft 8 and also the Unique 297 rims are on back order for 2 months (for the 16x7 size with 5x4.5 bolt pattern). So i went with the other rim because the were 25% off price. Once they come in i will post an update picture!

The hub doesn't directly support the wheel. If it did the wheel would need to be designed and secured differently, and mounting a wheel would be a more involved process. More correctly you could say the wheel (and rotor, usually) are secured to the axle flange by the clamping force created by tightening the wheel nuts on the wheel studs.
Different terms may be used but basically, hub centric rims are 'centered' ie held in the correct position, by the hub. So as soon as you put the wheel on to the hub it is mostly centered on the axle. Then, the wheel and wheel nuts further pull the wheel into the correct position as a result of their angled mating surfaces ( the typical 60 degree 'cone').
Lug centric rims have a larger ID than the OD of the hub, so they won't be centered when first put on to the hub. The wheel would actually hang down slightly from the center at that point. Then as the nuts are torqued down the wheel is pulled into position.
Hub centric rings, or wheel centering rings, are a way to restore the hub centering of the wheel. It helps to avoid the wheel being tightened down in an off-center position, which would cause the wheel to be out of balance and would cause vibration while driving. These rings are often made of plastic or aluminum, because again, they don't actually support the wheel.
In my opinion hub centric rings are a convenience in most cases. If you mount and torque wheels properly they aren't necessary but they are nice to have. If you use different rims on your vehicle it may be less convenient. On my daughter's car I have alloy wheels with hub centric rings, but hub centric steel rims for the winter. So each fall I have to take the rings off and put them back on in the spring, not a big deal just sayin'.

Gary Chanley Jr I am running 15x7 rims with 0 offset. Yes... there a couple of confirmed fitment 15" wheels for the Compass & Patriot. I don't see you having any issues with a 16" wheel with 0 offset if I can get a 15" to fit. (they are VERY close to the caliper... but they clear). May not hurt to test fit a wheel before buying if that is a possibility.

My wheels have a 73mm hub bore also, and I do not have centering rings. I bought new 60 degree lug nuts for the wheels and have had no issues using the wheels as lug centric. Can always try them and IF you run into any issues, you can get the centering rings later.

InsaneDonutz Asakaze- Thanks for that offset info. You think the zero offset won't fit then? There is an aluminum rim i like as well with 40 offset however it says the hub bore is 73 and i believe the stock size is 67.1. That would require hub centric rings correct? I dont want to over stress the lug nuts

asakaze Hi there, I can confirm no rubbing fit with 225/70r16 but with offset 40. Be very careful about front calipers clearance and rear brake hose clearance with any of "16 wheels especially if you are pushing them outwards with zero offset. Tire is the minor problem here. Also, I'd support the logic behind alu rims instead of steel, for winter use take those with dark coating, salt alu-protection and you should be alright.

InsaneDonutz Zoner99 - Thank you for all that info man (you have an awesome compass btw!) And yes the dynapro atm's are P metric. I know I'll take a hit at fuel economy with what i want though. Originally i wanted the tires in 225-75 because they are about 13 dollars cheaper each (225-70's are 105$ and 225-75's are 92$) but i dont think they will fit. From what i see on tiresize calculator it would be almost 2 inches taller and ill guess a bigger hit on fuel economy.

zoner99 Shouldn't be a problem. Some standard disclaimers though. It is a taller tire so your speedometer will read slightly low (you will be going faster than what it shows), the vehicle will sit about 1/2" higher so there will be a minor loss of fuel economy at highway speeds. Going from all seasons (presuming you have stock tires now) to all terrains will add some rolling resistance which will also have a small negative effect on fuel economy. The Soft 8's are steel wheels and will add weight to the vehicle, the tires will also be heavier, so again that will have a small negative effect on fuel economy. You could consider an alloy wheel instead.
I don't see 225/70r16 listed on the Hankook website. However, AT tires may be offered in P-metric or LT sizes, or both. P-metric is generally better for road driving, while LTs are usually a physically tougher tire with deeper tread giving advantage while off-road.

Lookin to get new wheels and tires

Hello first post here! I have a 2015 Compass Latitude and currently i have stock 225-60 tires on a 17x6.5 rim. I want to put on 16x7 Cragar soft 8's (with zero offset) on size 225-70 hankook dynapro atm's. Will i run into any issues here? I dont want to run spacers or modify anything, just want an aggressive look!
