My best guess is engine braking kicking in. I have noticed if I hold my foot lightly on the brake for a few seconds without really giving it any brake pressure it seems to want to help use the engine to scrub off speed. What is really nutty is using the cruise control up here in the mountains. It will do insane downshifts going down hill to try to keep the Jeep at the speed you set it at. I once had it darn near bounce the tach at max. Now I'm careful about it and if I see it dropping gears I add brake to kick the cruise off and slow it down. These are funky automatic transmissions!!!!

Revving when foot off the gas
My wife bought a 2018 Jeep Compass last November. The first 3 months everything was great, but in the last 4-5 month, we have noticed a high revving when taking foot off the gas to slow down or coast.
Once occasion this occurs is when accelerating up to 55-60 km/h, then take foot off the gas. We hear a loud rev almost like we have down shifted. Sometimes when looking at the RMP's you will see them jump from 2500-3200. Other times when driving through town it will just start revving high for no reason.
We have taken to dealership several times, but they say there is nothing wrong or they can't hear anything. The revving occurs several times on any given trip and seems to be getting worse.
Has anyone else experienced a similar issue like this?
