|dpala||Scratch that... the usb stick I was using didn't have any songs on it. Haha. Ive retested it with songs, and an iPhone 4. They both work. Songs play with no issue when connected. My galaxy S4 isnt doing anything. Charges, but no songs will play. Ive called a mate with a 2014 jeep grand Cherokee, his got a uconnect usb port, and his galaxy s4 works fine. My headunit was obviously updated if it works with a usb stick and iphone. Im honestly stumped...|

Thanks for all your help tripplec. Ive had it in the car for a week now, and its working fine. Its providing a charge, albeit, very slowly.
Thing thats stumped me is, when connected to the cable it says on my phone, connected as media device, yet the headunit doesnt seem to pick up the phone to play songs. Its only working thru bluetooth. Once its connected on bluetooth, it works fine, song names show etc. But its not recognising what evers plugged in to play songs (usb stick, android phone etc)
I think you may be right that the unit needs updating. Ive found my old iphone, so im about to test that and see.

|tripplec||Good to hear. I wasn't sure how they implemented that function in that radio but new it was there. To get new players to work especially IPhones you need the latest firmware. The dealers also should have list of phones etc which don't work. they used to since years ago people were having trouble and I saw it once while I was waiting at my dealer for repairs. You may have to ask.|

Ive wired up a standard mini usb b to female usb, so ive finally got a USB port installed and working
Has anyone tested what mAh their phones charge at while using this specific uconnect usb point?
Ive downloaded "Galaxy Charging Current *Lite*" from the google play store, and tested it with my galaxy S4 and am receiving anywhere from 350-500mAh. The charging cable im using has a 1200mAh capacity on an AC charger. Not as fast as a charge as I was hoping for...

Thanks for the help guys. Ive determined its definately not a usb port I can really use. Good thing tbats come out of this is that I dont need to do a custom usb port install. As I have uconnect, I can connect a usb port to that. The uconnect has a plug at the back which you can connect a usb extender to (which jeep offers from factory) its just a mini B plug to female usb.
Mopar USB Integration Cable.
Im just going to locally source a mini b to female usb cable locally, and custom install the female plug on my centre console. Now any msle usb plug will be able to charge any phone/tablet etc.
Does anyone have exp with this? Im sort of wondering if any cable with those ports will work or if I need original. I dont have the right plug at home atm, so I used a a mini b to male, then a otg cable to try to charge my phone, but otg doesnt work like that, so I then tried a camera which turned it to usb mode (what it should do qhen plugged into a usb source) but it didnt charge. Im hoping that was just due to the otg cable.

|tripplec||I'd expect that to be there on the upgrade radio unit with UConnect. They charge a lot for the kit and mic if you did not order it with the vehicle. I could buy a good Sony head with Bluetooth and USB for what the kit options cost. LOL|

|Tyler-98-W68||On my 2012 with the Nav radio, I have usb on the front of the unit, but also there is a usb port in the glove box, maybe the port you came across is used when the optional glovebox usb is optioned at the factory.|

Many device which can be plugged into USB can be self powered and not rely on power from the plug. Especially if they require 1A or more like some new cell phones. 500mA is the max USB 2.0 spec. It does not mean it is not or cannot read and USB files which is powered like an IPOD or IPHONE.
However, seeing graphics on the screen does not mean you have the latest firmware. If its meant to read IPOD and Phones etc the latest firmware would support more current product. I it was me I'd followup and verify that its done otherwise take it in and wait for it . It should not take them long. Whether a IPOD or such will play through it only the audio tech would know or contact the Jeep customer support line for help.

Thanks for the response tripplec. That makes sense, as I didnt notice an input on tbe back of the headunit for updates. I can see song/album names etc on the headunit, so its definately been updated. Weird that there was no current what so ever when tested with a volt meter though.
Damn, after I stumbled across that earlier link, I seriously hoped mine was the same situation.

Radios with UConnect would have to accommodate firmware updates therefore a port like USB would have to be built in. If the model supports IPod connections and the like for MP3 Players it may be dual purpose.
Maybe its not activated somehow. If your upgrade was installed be sure they upgraded the radio firmware for MP3/IPOD use. I know those units have a graphics screen and will display titles. Not like my dumb unit which plays MP3 disk but show nothing about what is selected. It was engineered in the Amazon I am sure. An MP3 player without ID Tag support in this day and age. Useless head other than FM etc.

Haha yea those details probably would help.
I have a 2011 my12 2.4ltr 4x4 Aus delivered jeep compass using the stock REL headunit (with the uconnect button on the unit). When I bought the car it was a dealer second and was advised the uconnect was never actually installed, so I paid extra for the uconnect module and mic etc to be wired in.
I came across the below link earlier today and noticed the way the guy came across the usb port was almost identical to mine.
USB Port Hidden on 2010-2013 Res 130s with UCONNECT - DODGE RAM FORUM - Dodge Truck Forums
He had power tho, mine doesnt. I even tested with a volt meter and got nothing what so ever.

Without a details of the vehicle and no signature in your profile. This is a guess.
Depending on a lot. I would guess its the factory firmware upgrade port for the head unit.

Delphi USB found in Jeep compass
Im looking at doing a USB outlet install in my jeep compass as it never came with one from factory. Ive had a google around and had a good idea what im doing.
To make it easier when i start the project, i thought id have a poke around today to see how panels come off, stereo surround etc. When i got the stereo surround off and saw my uconnect module tucked away under my headunit, i also noticed a USB plug in there.
I thought id stumbled upon a hidden USB port that jeep never installed properly. I pulled the cable out further and noticed the brand is "Delphi". I grabbed a charger cable, plugged it in hoping it was a charging point. No love.
Ive called 3 jeep dealerships, and well... they have absolutely no idea and just keep bouncing me between departments.
All ive been able to find about delphi is their website:
Delphi Data Connectivity Systems
And the USB point i can see is the one in the below link under - Cable Assemblies
It seems from their site it should be able to be used as a USB point in some way or form.
Anyone able to provide any insight??
Thanks in advance
