smokey01 It might have been a coincidence but the seals haven't leaked since. It might just be from the break in. I might switch back later but I'll stay semi-synthetic for now.

Feel for life Smokey,

Was it because of the oil ?? or a coincidence?

smokey01 I switched to a synthetic for my first oil change but the engine seals leaked so much that I went back to a semi-synthetic and haven't had a problem since

CompassLimited I switched to synthetics. Have not used a drop of oil with either type.
Seems like more power but it may be wishful thinking.

Synthetic or Mineral Oil?

Many or any or you changed to synthetic motor oil?
I have always used conventional oils but have heard so much about the synthetics.
Comments?

wesleyd After the initial break in period of a new engine you should not burn or consume any noticeable amount of oil between changes. It is not abnormal for a brand new engine to use some oil while breaking in. If you find you have to add oil frequently its time to get the engine checked out. This is of course if you are changing your oil on a regular basis. My dad had a K-car, my first car, and he never changed the oil in it in ten years. He used about a liter a year and I think that was due to evaporation, LOL. I was amazed the engine didn't die. I had the car for 5 more years and then sold it and it stayed on the road for another 10 years after that. I think it was an 82, it was brown and orange and primer grey and primer red.

Oil Consumption

We all watch our gas consumptions, but what about motor oil.
I have over 27,000km and to date I don't think I have added a drop of motor oil between oil changes.
When I check the dipstick it always shows good level and nice clean oil.
I don't see much oil consumed between changes.
What do others find???
