I am sure there will at least be a few laughs, but the truth is, I am not insecure about driving the Compass. Besides a few fit and finish issues, I am happier with it every day. My Cherokee is my baby, and this one is my toy. There are a couple trails around here actually that the Compass would probably do very well with. We'll have to see, but I have to save the real rock crawling for when I get my new block put in my Cherokee, then they can laugh all they want, because even in the Compass, it is still a Jeep thing, and I am having fun out there.

Looking . . .
Was the traffic manager for a apparel importer, 25yrs with same firm, let go this summer. Sales slump since 9/11 - company restructured then finally sold, (the new owners now just doing what the need to keep the name).
Might not be in the Compass today had I forseen, but the buying company seemed strong and there was no warning of their intentions. In fact I had a decent raise (the first in 5yrs) this spring, so go know :!: . . . Glad for the Compass.

Loved
my 2007 Compass 5-Speed, Limited!

{BUT NOW SOOO IN LOVE WITH MY NEW CRUSH WRANGLER!}

Re: What I do for a living...

I'm a programmer for a Linux-based compute farm for calculating financial risks. I am also one of 6 system administrators for this farm of ~30,000 servers. Fun stuff. Keeps me busy and I get to travel to fun places every now and again.

I also get a great view of the Statue of Liberty from my desk and if I stretch a bit I get lower Manhattan:

But the commute sucks

That's some really cool stuff. I started to touch on embedded real-time systems at my last job using Linux. Really cool stuff. I wouldn't mind taking my career in that direction. Need to brush up on my hardware kernel hacking though. Do you enjoy it?

Absolutely love it! I have been developing software at all levels for over 20 years and I find that I always go back in this direction. There is nothing like watching my code bring an industrial machine to life.

Lately I've only been doing lots of scripting (perl/bash) and interfaces (QT and C++). Nothing hardware related. At my last job I was doing some kernel device driver work in C and Assembly for a partially embedded device. I kinda miss it... I know exactly what you mean though. Manipulating the hardware through a few simple lines of code is awesome

Re: What I do for a living...

I've worked for General Electric Transportation Systems for almost 38 years now. Among other things, we build diesel electric locomotives. Right now I'm involved in the re-manufacture of 1,000 horsepower DC traction motors for these locomotives. I hope to retire next year.
