Check engine light on and ambient air temperature not displaying

Yesterday morning when I started my Compass the check engine light stayed on and when I look to see what the ambient temperature was all that was displayed were dashes. Does anyone have a suggestion for why this would happen and how to remedy the problem? It still runs and drives fine. The only other issue that I am having is the exhaust rattling because one of the supports is cracked.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. The only other transportaton that I have is a motorcycle and 20-30F temps in the morning are a little cold to be riding to work.

.... check for the sensor... it is located in the front bumper down side. Very small like a pen cap or so.... maybe it is disconnected , loose connection, or lost? preatty easy to steel, but to cheap also...

check maybe the ambient temperature goes back again. will look if i have pics for that (year of your compass???)
