so here is a picture i took tonight as you can see there is 1 cm of snow and my vehicle slid about 4 feet i have very good winter tires with lots of tred. i also go some in car footage of my brakes locking up and the abs not coming on. ill post that in a bit. i have all-ready reported this to nhtsa and i will be emailing them the video. i will also try to get in contact over email with Chrysler corp. i have been thru soo much bull with this vehicle. and there are soo many other issues i have right now, such as my seat belt unlatching itself and suspension components. there are about 35 complaints on the nhtsa website there are 4 complaints of the seat belt coming un latched and numerous complaints about premature tierod failure. and suspension issues. i will try to keep you guys posted

If you slid then ABS really wouldn't help you stop you faster. Its there to help you maintain control of your vehicle especially in a turn. I can make those kind of marks with my Compass and I know the ABS is working. As you said you have good tires with plenty of tread and that has way more to do with the stopping power than the ABS.

how so? when im traveling at 30 k and hit my brakes they lock up how does that give me better stopping power? my vehicle will go into an uncontrollable slide. who uses brakes while theyre turning usually you brake before a turn. i guess i didnt make it clear but i have had my jeep for 3 years abs has been fine since this year.

we got a blast of winter and i was driving this-morning and it was hard slowing down without locking up

Did you check to see if the fuse in the fuse panel that controls feeds your ABS is okay / not blown?

Check your manual to see if it lists which fuse controls the ABS.

I believe you when you say your ABS isn't working.
But a lot of people think that it going to stop them faster than regular brakes. All the ABS does is sense when your tires are sliding and then releases the brakes so that they maintain some grip on the road. That way it helps keep you straight instead of going sideways into a spin or slide.
If your ABS isn't working then use your brakes like you used to before anyone had ABS.
I don't want to sound like I'm preaching here but If you can't brake without locking up, then slow down a bit.

i dont think you understand my problem thoroughly. my abs works one minute then it doesn't work the next. so every time i break in the snow/slippery conditions i i cant tell when im loosing traction. lets say i come up to the stop sign i slow down and i stop all is good abs works. i get to my next stop sign i apply the brakes i dont feel like im stopping i apply them a little harder then i realize my wheels are locked up and im in a slide. this abs wanting to work when ever it wants is not working for me. ive already spoken to a mechanic about the issue. ill be getting it looked at shortly.

Are you sure its locked up or just rolling and not responding to pressure. I had an Mazda MPV 4x4 and the wheels would NOT lock up ABS kick in in foul weather, wet roads, snow etc and I would just glide most the time. I could not tell what was going on. No friction or grip sensation from the tires whatsoever. There was some so or fault with the ABS system or proportioning valve system and pressure would not apply to the shoes/wheels braking system. I eventually disabled the ABS after many close calls (going through RED lights right across the interest, into the back of many vehicle only missing because I steered of into the sidewalk or ditch, and not making some turns). I got rid of it at the end of the warranty. The never were able to fix or isolate the problem but with ABS disabled I was ok in the last year. I know its a terrifying experience.

Good luck.
