2007 Jeep Compass Limited Cranks for long period before firing

I own a 2007 Jeep Compass Limited that is having problems starting if it's been sitting for any period of time that is more than 2 hours. When I get in the vehicle and turn the car over it cranks and cranks and cranks until I push the gas pedal and it finally starts. After it starts, it runs fine.

If I turn the car off and try to start it back up right away, it starts up no problem. Any idea what might be causing this?

I took it to a mechanic and he hooked it up to a fuel pressure gauge for 30 minutes (not sure if that's long enough seeing that the problem only happens when the engine has been off for 2 or more hours), hooked it up to a computer and no codes generated, and replaced some corroded spark plugs. We replaced the battery in it prior to taking it to the mechanic so it's not that either. HELP!

Sound like its starving from air or gas. Check the air filter is not plugged (have you ever changed it?) Its easy to remove, shake it out and hold it to the sky if its bright day or in from of a lamp. You should see light coming through the the pleats. If its more than grey its quite dirty and may be plugged. Although this does not normally cause the problem but and oil fouled plugged air filter would create problems. Very poor gas millage for one.

The fuel pump may be worn or filter plugged and gas pressure may be low.
- I am not telling you to speed or drive recklessly!!!
- on the highway do you have problems drive at or above highway speed
- can you accelerate fairly quickly or is is sluggish or bogs down when you step on the gas.

These are symptoms of an obstructed gas line filter. I doubt its the fuel pump seeing that it came up to pressure at the garage.

The battery has nothing to do with being able to fire up if its turning over the engine fast enough. Which was not your problem. IMO an electrical issue is not likely either since there are no codes as well.

Monitor it and compile all the symptoms you can. Details are everything as is the background of the vehicle. Bad gas can also create issues. You could try a different brand or station. Try and stick to name brand station when possible.
