I screwed up ?

Hi everyone!
Yes I did it- I towed my 09 Compass 2.0 with standard transmission with a DOLLY.
Afterwards I found out you're not supposed to do that.
Anyways- now I have this very audible clonking noise from the rear in tight turns and sometimes at low speed .
What is there coming at me in regards of repairs?
Please no comments on the tow job itself- I feel pretty stupid enough as it is...
Thanks!

I am not sure.

How was it towed. Front wheels up and in the dolly and rears rolling.

Transmission in Neutral?

This is all normal so I am not sure why if would be a problem.

There you go. That would have done it. Its all in the details.

Owner manuals all have a section on towing. 4x4's from any manufacturer always needed all 4 wheels off the ground to be towed.

Didn't have the OM , bought the Jeep second or third hand.
Since I'm aware now of the towing procedures- what's the damage?
Thanks,

I could not really say. There is an engagement system (transfer case) section coupled to the transmission area and mechanism in the rear diff. I can only guess the that the transfer case area has undergone undue stress. However, you are saying the sound is coming from the rear.

I'd say you'd need to have dealer mechanic look at it or a true power train shop who works with 4x4's etc. Call around or pay for an estimate at a Jeep dealer.

No way to know unless its happened to someone already and reads this.

FYI: I got it fixed. What went was the electronic clutch that's bolted to the differential .
Part was 870$ (Canadian) , plus labour and tax.
Take care everyone!
