front wheel bearing; pressing into knuckle

First post, sorry for asking help so soon.
Just replaced a front right wheel bearing 2011 Compass
While pressing into knuckle, we found there was no 'stop and it started coming out the back of the knuckle.
Realized it went too far (ABS sensor would not go in.

Pressed it back out toward the spring clip slot.

Shouldn't there be a stop on the inside?
What keeps it from incing out the back while turning on the highway?

I've never had a first gen compass knuckle apart but the others I've seen are always either two clips (one on each side) or knuckle is cast with a permanent stop on the inside and the bearing can only go in/out on the outside.

If nobody here chimes in, I'd check a chilton's manual if you can find one.
