cover film panel of the stereo buttons is damaged

A chemical agent from an air freshener was accidently spilled over the buttons of my car stereo. It will cost me fortune just to replace the whole stereo since the buttons can't be replaced themselves. Does anyone have any idea how to fix the surface of the damaged buttons? The buttons themselves have not been damaged, just the film panel covering them.
