Hello all,

We pretty much all heard about the famous "ABS Brakes recall" but I finally found the details about it today. However, I have not received any recall letter so far. Here are the details:

NHTSA Recall Campaign Number: 06V493000

Component: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE

Details: ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE MAY CAUSE THE REAR BRAKES TO LOCK UP DURING CERTAIN BRAKING CONDITIONS.

Consequence: THIS COULD RESULT IN A LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL AND CAUSE A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.

Corrective Action: DEALERS WILL REPROGRAM THE ABS ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT. THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 19, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DAIMLERCHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.

Units Potentially Affected: 50665

Recall Initiated By: MFR
Date added to NHTSA datbase: 12/29/2006

Here you go... Maybe my Compass isn't affected by this and this is the reason why I haven't received the recall letter or it might just be because they aren't able to deal with the demand, there is, after all, about 50,000 trucks recalled... :-(

I also think this recall only applies to 2 wheel drive Compass, not 4x4

I also found something regarding the park brake for 4x4 models:

NHTSA Recall Campaign Number: 07V196000

Component: WHEELS:CAP/COVER/HUB

Details: CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH REAR DISC BRAKES FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD (FMVSS) NO. 135, "LIGHT VEHICLE BRAKE SYSTEMS." THE LENGTH OF THE REAR WHEEL HUB MOUNTING BOLTS MAY PREVENT ACTUATION OF THE PARK BRAKE.

Consequence: THIS COULD ALLOW UNINTENDED MOVEMENT OF THE VEHICLE UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS AND CAUSE A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.

Corrective Action: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE REAR WHEEL HUB MOUNTING BOLTS AND REPAIR THE PARK BRAKE FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON MAY 8, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DAIMLERCHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.

Units Potentially Affected: 410

Recall Initiated By: MFR
Date added to NHTSA datbase: 05/07/2007

Interesting recalls... Weird that I haven't received this one either...

You can check to see if your Jeep is recalled on the Jeep website. You just need your VIN number. Click on the owners section and there is a link there.
